International half track - with a mod or two
The picture below shows a Polar Bears half track on the road to Utrecht, Holland, in April 1945 (courtesy of KTR-members Henk Minne and Wim van Snippenberg).
Are these guys holidaying or what?!? H. |

Hanno, maybe I should try that with my IHC! Somehow I think that the MTO (Ministry of Transportation, Ontario) would be quite interested seeing me coming down the road with the likes of that.
I'm sure the HT on it's own is likely to raise an eyebrow or two...

Talking of International Half Tracks with additions, I note that on the back of the Contract Card for S/M 6176 which was for 500 recondition M5A1 vehicles, it states, "21 vehicles to No.1 Central Workshop REME Ashford for body stripping prior to conversion unde M of S arrangement to F.A. No.2.
I assume this conversion to be the one featured on the attached photograph? The source for this photograh does however claim that the vehicle saw service during the 1960's, which seems a bit late to be making notes on the back of the war-time contract card. Talking of Command Half tracks again, on the back of the Contract Card for S/M 6105 which was for 1590 M14 vehicles it states, modification of 229 trucks "M14" by Vincents of Reading to include fitment of tilting seats for four people, filting of tilts, and modifications to allow for the fitting of No.19 L.P. and H.P. W/T sets. |

Some images of halftrack add on,s post war but wartime vehicles first a nice colour shot of the MK 2 as i like to call it of the REME repair halftrack in Germany, nice body modification on this one. two; at a surplus sale the body work rather crude and third a post war signals version, unusual frame on the front. Out of interest doe,s the armour forum include post war vehicles?

Here's another modified one of the Polar Bears, in this case an ammunition carrier. Photo taken shortly after the liberation of Velp on 16 April 1945. Source: www.liberationchildren.org

Back to topic after 12 years...
Here's a great picture of a modified half-track. Most likely in use with REME troops passing through the Zomerstraat onwards to the Bredaseweg, Tilburg, 27-10-1944 Source: https://hdl.handle.net/21.12103/3976...b-206b2b306c5f
