F60S Unladen Weight
Nearing completion of the rebuild of our F60S LAAT we are now thinking about insurance.
To insure for the Normandy 75 trip and get recovery, we need to know the unladen weight of the truck. Can anyone help me please? Alastair F60S |

The AEDB Design Record gives the following weights:
Curb weight of vehicle: 10,250 pounds Gross weight of vehicle including 7 pers: 13,600 Max allowable weight: 16000 Perhaps the best bet though would be to get it to a weigh scale in the configuration you are likely going to have, and get an actual weight. |

I looked it up for the F60S with license plate AR-10-07 (on the left of the attached picture): it has a actual empty weight of 4870 kg (excluding passengers and load). According to the registration document, the maximum allowable weight is 5015 kg. According to the specs Rob posted: Curb weight of vehicle: 10,250 pounds = 4650 kg - a bit less than AR-10-07 Max allowable weight: 16000 pounds = 7257 kg - considerably more than AR-10-07, but it may have been downrated on paper. I'd list an empty/unladen weight of 5000 kg, so if you need recovery they do not turn up with a vehicle which is too light to handle the recovery. PS: you could always ask Andy Mitchell about his recovery experience in Normandy back in 2014... H.

Unladen weight
Thanks to both of you. I will go with these figures and amend them when the vehicle is legal and can be driven to a weigh bridge.

Seeing reference to Andy Mitchells recovery from France in 2014 minds me to mention that many of us in the UK insure our vehicles through Hagerty Insurance as they are very military vehicle friendly. They include recovery as part of the policy and it used to be very good as Andy can confirm, however they have now handed over that part of the cover to the RAC who will not recover anything over 3.5 tons! I have just renewed my insurance with them and DID read the small print. I suggest anyone with a vehicle over 3.5 tons check their cover carefully.
Cheers
