Early M38A1 CDN Info
Hello....Yesterday I visited the military museum at CFB Borden. They had just received an M38A1 CDN1 (tilting rad-front clip, 8 screw battery box hold-down lid etc) as a gift from a "L Col. B. Savage". The label on the stand beside the jeep described the jeep as "1950 Era, 1/4 Ton Standard Military Pattern, Dodge Jeep 4x4".
From what I have learnt after purchasing my 67' M38A1 is that the CDN 1 was produced by Willy's Overland in the early 50's. The CDN 2 was built from 1967 to 1968 (please correct me if I am wrong) by Kaiser in Winsor, Ontario and the CDN 3 was produced in Toledo, Ohio by AMC as Kaiser went bankrupt in the late 60's and sold the jeep brand to AMC....again, please correct me if I am wrong. I would like to send an email to my contact at CFB Borden to have them correct the label beside their newly acquired M38A1....what would be the correct description on the label for this CDN jeep? Regards and thanks in advance, lesk |

Data plat info
If they were to look at the data plate, they would see the correct vehicle info:
Truck Utility 1/4 Ton 4X4 M38A1 CDN Ford Motor Co of Canada Ltd

The term M38A1CDN1 is also not accurate. They had no idea there would be a 2 or a 3 some 15 years later. The first family of M38A1 CDN were assembled in Canada by Ford. Any CFTOs that I have that discuss all 3 merely refer to the first batch as M38A1CDN.
With regard to the Cdn3, think I saw some of the last ones with AMG logo on the serial plate behind the seat, but it was so many years ago now that I can't be sure of that. Most were marked with Jeep corporation from Toledo. |

Info on CFB Borden M38A1
Thanks Wayne & Rob,
I was incorrect to add the 1 in CDN in my original post....the actual description tag in front of the Jeep is "1950 Era, 1/4 Ton Standard Military Pattern, Dodge Jeep 4x4"......it is in fact an early M38A1 CDN...my issue was the word "Dodge Jeep" in the descripiption....I will now contact the person at the museum and send Wayne's description as "Truck Utility 1/4 Ton 4x4, M38A1 CDN Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd." Also, the data plates on the museum M38A1 CDN were original and were not readable.....I tried to read it but could not. Also, I took many pictures that for some reason I cannot post here. Thanks and regards, lesk |

9 out of 10 times, the photos are too large for the forum to accept. Reduce the size of them. There are guidelines from Hanno up at the top of the forum for what the max size can be. I'll usually move the photo to photo editor and reduce one side of the photo to 900 pixels, and the photo will then work.
