Default Morris CS8 15cwt 4X2 as a gun portee?

I am wondering if anyone can confirm that the Morris CS8 15cwt G.S. truck was indeed used as a gun portee in North Africa for the 2pdr gun. I can not seem to find more than a couple of pictures of the truck with a specially made tarp as seen in France in 1940.

If the truck was used in N.A. did it pull and or carry the gun? Could it be fired from the truck bed? What kind of tie downs would it have?

Sorry for the questions but I've searched the web for answers and came up with very little.

Thanks to all
Sean

Default CS8 Portees in desert

Yes a parts list dated as early as 1936 refers to CS8 Anti Tank models .

I own three CS8's in various states of rustiness ! The size of the rear springs and axle indicates the truck is capable of carrying much more than 15 cwt ........

I am currently rebuilding a carby from one of these , its a updraft Solex thing made from brass and white metal , it has no accelerator pump in it , but a huge 3 part main jet .

The following is from Mike Connifords profile on Morris CS8's

Default From the manual

A page from the 1936 dated parts list

Was the 2 pounder in service at that time ?

Default Thanks Mike. Now the hard question

By the photos it looks like a welded structure has replaced the box on th desert version. Is this correct. it looks to be as though the structure holds ammo cans for easy access with the sand channels hung down the sides. How is the 2pdr secured in the back. I imagine the recoil would require some backstops for the wheels and tie downs for the gun itself albeit hung loose so as to allow some recoil. I could see the tiedowns ripping out of the deck otherwise.

I know tough questions again but I sincerly thank everyone for any info.

Regards
Sean

Default 2 pdr portee

The vehicle in the two pics is a Morris-Commercial CS8
15 cwt truck with a Bofors 37 mm AT gun, not a 2 pdr gun

Best regards
Attilio
