Divisional Cavalry Regiments
Gentlemen, I have a question.
In several books I have read that the establishment of the Divisional Cavalry Regiments (Div Cav Regts) for the Australian Army and I assume the British and Canadian, gave a total of 28 light tanks and 44 Bren gun carriers early in the war. Now ignoring the fact that many never received that many or ended up with more tanks and less carriers, how was that official establishment broken down? Was it two light tank sqn's and ? carrier sqn's? Were they mixed sqn's? How many sqn's and what were they allotted?  In advance to all.

The NZ Div Cav
had an establishment in Greece based on Armoured cars (Marmon Herrington) and carriers.
Jeff Plowmans book (Kiwi Armour 3) shows mixed squadrons, with 2 troops of A/C and 4 troops of carriers, while SHQ had 2 A/C and 2 carriers and RHQ had a similar establishment, and Headquarters Sqn had a large motorcycle troop. LAter in Italy it was based on Staghounds and Dingos, and the odd White. 2 NZ Div was organised on British lines. hope that helps Rob

and more yet...
just read over the page...Jeff describes the establishment of a Div Cav Regt as follows:
"RHQ of 4 light tanks and 2 carriers, and 3 squadrons each of a SHQ of 2 light tanks and 2 carriers, 2 troops of 3 light tanks each and 4 troops of 3 carriers each." so they weren't mixed on paper at least Rob
