Default Tight distributor

Hi All

I am helping to tune an L134 engine in a Willys Jeep. We came to a halt after loosening the nuts and trying to turn the distributor. However the distributor is well and trully stuck and will not move, we tried pulling it out and again no movement. I did not want to put any force on it, so I decided to put it you who have the knowledge and experience.

Can anyone suggest how I can get the distributor to move or how I can pull it out. I find it confusing as the vehicle is regularly used so it should not be rusted up like a long time unused engine sitting in a field. Or should I just leave it alone, like the old saying, " If it aint broke, don't fix it ".

Cheers

Tony

Default Distributer removel

Tony,
I have been there and was not impressed, There is no easy way to remove it, Start by spraying a lube around the base of the distributerand pray that after a few days of this with some pressure left to right it comes.

If it dont only othe way is to remove the oil pump and get some hard wood dowel and insert it up into the oil pump housing hole and start taping untill it comes loose, this was the only way i could do it also.

The engine that i did it to was rebuilt a year before but was put away for winter and thats all it took.

When you get it out coat the base of the Distributer with grease, you wont have a problem again.

Jason

Try using an oil filter strap (with a lever) on it. Put the strap low on the body, and be careful not to distort the housing.
If the engine runs, let it warm up and cool down a couple of times, after it has been soaked with penetrating oil, for a day or two.
The jeep dizzy has a small dog on the end. It can only be the distributor body stuck in the block bore. Good luck!

Hi Jason and Lynn

Thanks guys for coming back to me with a solution. I will ensure we follow it to the letter. We will spray some good old WD40 around the base as suggested and I will also get a oil filter strap. Thanks again, MLU members have done it again. Appreciated.

Cheers

Tony

Try the "ED's Red" mixture. 50% acetone mixed with 50% ATF fluid.
