Default Wiring loom Cab 12 F60L

Howdy all,

Just started putting in the wiring loom. Which is a beatifully made copy of the original by Vintage Wiring Harness.

Where is the original position of the loom? ie; where it actually sits in the vehicle? Ive got all the wiring diagrams I need so please dont post any in reply. I'm actually talking about pictures of the nooks & crannies this beastie is supposed to go.

Why didnt I take photo's of the original you may ask? Because it wasnt there in most spots & where it was still in existence, it had been well & truly modified & re-routed.

I swear auto elec's have a secret handshake & nod - they remind me of Doctors & Surgeons who love talking in their own language.

Thanks Fellahs for any help. I get this done & I'm nearly ready to go.

If Ford and Chevy routed the harness the same I can tell you how the Pattern 12 C60L is routed. I took photos of the routing of the old harness which though shot was pretty much intact. Glad to help if I can.

Cheers Phil

Be great Phil, anything's better than what Ive got go on right now. I'm sure where it runs along the chassis & to the headlights could not be all that different. (famous last words I know).

Many thanks David. Looking at your collection your into both the Fords & Chevs.

The layout does not appear to be very different between the two manufacturer's.

What's your opinion?

(awesome photo's by the way. Got any more?)

Default Will collect the photos and post

Hi Tony

I'll go through my photos and try to document the entire route along the frame. I'll try to get them posted either on MLU or my own web page within the next week.

One point I will make is be sure to use cable clamps hold the cable in the correct location. I learned this the hard way.

The actual route of the wire loom, will also be indicated by a number of extra bolt holes running down the right frame rail. The real problem area is the routing from the cross member just in front of the transfer case behind the fuel lines, brake lines, speedometer cable and the battery cable. Then you hide it all behind the master cylinder and the brake booster. Easiest to install before the engine is installed but can be done with the engine in place.

Cheers Phil

Default Pattern 12 F60L Wiring Routing

Hi Tony

Well I've been collecting photos of the routing of the harness on my Pat 12 C60L and looking through all of the manuals I've collected over the years, Because of the number of photos involved I will post them to my site. Hope I can get that done soon.

But I have a question, looking at some of my Ford Parts books it appears that the brake lines on the Fords runs down the passenger side of the vehicle while on Chevys both wiring harness, brake lines, fuel lines, and speedo cable run down the right or drivers side.

Questions:
Which side of the truck did the remains of your wiring harness run?
Which side do the brake lines to rear brakes run?

I'll keep working away on posting the info.

Cheers Phil

Thanks for getting back to me Phil. Had a look at your website too by the way. Good stuff!!

With regard to the Blitz

The wiring harness ran down the drivers side of the Chassis.

The Brake lines to the rear brakes ran down the passengers side.

Being a Canadian build for the Aussies, it is a right hand drive vehicle.

Don't stay up too late

Default Tony's progress

Visited Ganmain yesterday and was very impressed to see Tony's progress on his cab 12. Just looking at it you can see just how much work has gone into it.

Default Curious......

Looking at all these wonderful metal arches makes me long for Spring.....

curious..... are all the "arches" of cab 11/12 identical in every curve and details between Ford and Chevrolet.....? My Chev has a funny little offset curve near the steering wheel which makes the RH slightly different from the LH curve....... all the rest seems the same.....cast iron sheet metal support....fender brackets..... even the Air Conditioning hooks on the cowl for the front doors........

Always something to learn.

Please do not encourage Tony any further.
He is setting the bar WAY too high!
I think it is about time he slackened off a bit.

C'mon H, Tony will have your F15 at Corowa on an 'A' bar behind the Cab 12 before you know it.

Default Pictures of the wiring route on Pat 12 C60L

Hi Tony

When I see the work you have done I realize how much of a work in progress my C60L still is, and how much more I have to do.

But instead of waiting until I had a more complete web page on the process of copying, making and installing a reproduction harness. I thought I would post a series of photos and notes about just the routing of the harness. Hope it is of some use. Also maybe it will prompt some comments about what I've done incorrectly or how Fords are different from Chevrolets.

So here is the link to my work in progress http://www.canadianmilitarypattern.c...%20Harness.htm

Main index/home page for my site is of course http://www.canadianmilitarypattern.com/

Cheers Phil

As they say Phil, a picture says a thousand words. Great site, great photo's & they are a big help.

That speedo cable incident must have scared the life out of you when it happened. Good motivator for me to get it right first time.

Will post some more pictures shortly of what I'm up to.

Howard has been a titanic help during yesterdays assault on the truck. We have a clutch noise that is very unsettling. It is also not completely disengaging when the clutch pedal is pressed. Anyway just another gremlin to sort out.

Again thanks very much for the trouble you went to to follow this up.
Hope youve booked your flights to Australia for March.

Howard don't mind the tow to Corowa, it's the long trip in the un-upholstered seat he's not looking forward to.

Default Another question...

Lads,

Appealing to your vast wisdom & knowledge again.

If the dash is not in the truck (Cab 12 F60L) & therefore the wiring behind it not hooked up. The truck will not start will it???

Hi Tony..The dash is just a convenient place to hide stuff..
The engine will run ..no problem..have to wire up the starter solenoid ..and ignition coils and bobs your uncle..The ignition switch is only a make-break circuit devise..a wall switch is a temporary ..make it two..One for the solenoid stater circuit and one for the ignition circuit..
##1..Hook up wall switches in circuits in series..two switches ..two circuits..
##2..Hook up batteries..
To Start..
#3..Turn on ignition wall switch..
#4..Turn on wall start switch..
If you have fuel..the engine is timed, the points are set, the plugs are set ,the valves are set..and you poured a 1/4 cup of gas down the carb..she will fire up....
As soon as she fires up..turn off the starter wall switch..(that is why ignition switches are spring loaded..)
She should be running..Hop on and take 'er for a spin..
If you stall..repeat the process.
To shut 'er down..turn off the ignition wall switch..who the hell told you you need a dash..??

PS..I think Phil has his engine on a test stand running in his shop..a video..Maybe he will jump in here and provide us a video link..and correct any details I forgot to run your engine on wall switches..

AND...if you just have the engine and chassis bolted together you won't even need lights to run 'er at night...Leave the exhaust manifolds off and let the exhaust firing out of the block(FOr Fords),heads for Chevs, light up your path..
They'll see you coming for miles..and they sure as hell will hear you..Perfect!!

I cleaned all the earthing points yesterday and then for some strange reason I dont think I tried to restart the thing.

Anyway there's a little lesson again and a fundamental one at that.........check the earths.

Especially when the truck's a new slab of green paint over everything.

Default Engine will run without the instruments- but

Hi All

As has been said the engine will run fine without the instrument panel as long as you jump the ignition. But be careful to protect the loose ends of the harness if all the other engine connections have been made up with the harness. Obviously be careful of the voltage regulator and amp meter short or ground out the wrong wires and you may damage the generator.

As Alex mentions I now run all my engines on a test stand, doesn't cure all the run in problems but does save time sorting out things before the engine is in the truck. My instrument panel is sort of generic so that I can run almost any engine on the stand. Video link is http://www.canadianmilitarypattern.com/CMP%20Videos.htm first item on the list or the Engine testing page http://www.canadianmilitarypattern.c...ineTesting.htm

Cheers Phil
