Hello all, first post from me, attached is a pic of a Lima crane that my grandfather operated during the war while serving with RE with XXX corps. Was this machine used by the Canadians ?

G'day Mac657,
Mac657, Welcome to MLU. It is always nice to see someone else come in out of the cold. Do you have a name? We are all friends here and like to know who we are talking too. Great photo. Plenty of other interesting bit in the photo too. I can identify the Matador but don't know what the other bits of plant are. Maybe an Aveling-Barford Dumper swinging of the wire. Interesting trailer behind the Matador too. What powered the Lima Crane? Regards Rick.

It does look like a Aveling Barford dumper, one of those which was built around a Standard Fordson tractor of the time. The trailer has the four-in-line knock out wheels at the back, and could well be a Scammell or Taskers type. This was the common type of low loader used through to the Sixties for carrying track laying equipment. regards, Richard
