Order them from summit racing in the US. They give free shipping within the US so have them shipped to the border and bring them across yourself. Your main options are Coker Firestone marked, or the STAs. There is also another brand on the market on ebay (MRF I think) that are cheaper and also have free shipping, but I can't speak to the quality. Last option is Titan. I have got a few of those from a US surplus dealer at $75 each, and the only negative I have is that they were extremely tight on the bead....I had to inflate them to somewhere around 50 pounds to get the beads to seat, then deflate them back to 30.

Ack on shipping to a US drop off address.
Where I live, Ogdensburg is the closest US "civilization". The standard procedure is to order them shipped to a UPS outlet and instruct the destination to call you for pickup. After that you drive to the Canadian side and empty your wallet. However it is cheaper than taking a second mortgage on the house if received in Canada.

Also look at Universal Tire. They are good to work with on shipping options.

I found that there is not a whole lot of savings to be had buying them from the USA, shipping, duty, tax and your time. The only way it seems to get a bit of savings if you purchase them in the USA and bring them back yourself but of course this only works if you are already down there for an event.
Supporting local vendors is not such a bad choice imho. Summit shows a price of $154, add the exchange rate of 1.32 and its $203.28 before shipping, duty, HST and any other associated costs including travel, gas etc Chris

Do the math....
Summit ships free for $154...convert to 203 Cdn....there are no duty for tire for your own use, you pay HST ...donuts and fuel...... can you do that for the $180 charge by the Hawkesbury dealer.......
Last load we brought over was 22 tires for personal use.....cost split between 4 guys.....no duty only HST. Good luck

$203CDN plus HST is roughly $230CDN. Guys do what you please but I fail to see the savings considering what ones time is worth plus the fuel cost.
No endorsement intended but I do believe at least one local dealer shows this size listed at $215CDN each plus HST ($242.95). Also, not sure where you guys ship to but the border points I use charge at least a handling fee to receive and hold a shipment thats at least $5 per piece. To save $12 a tire how cheap can one be? You'll be in the hole at the end of day but to each their own . Local MV dealers need our support too!

Hard to argue with a lot of that math. I had a quick look on ebay, and the other tire brand available is speedway. They are $105 USD each shipped to anywhere in the US. That makes the math a little more favorable.

I am cheap but can do math...
Hawkesbury quote of $200 does not include the same HST of 13%
shipping is still $180 Cdn Rob's findings are even more attractive.

Tires
Hi Guys,
Firstly...again, thanks for all the input. Secondly, Sylmar tire in Hawksbury, Ontario on the Quebec border is $200/tire and $45 each for delivery. Thirdly, the US for me is out of the question....for tires at least and fourthly, all local Canadian deals have no tires with the exception of Willy's Acres (25 minutes from my house)but they have screwed me on a 42' MB that I wanted to have restored....thank God I got my money back. Regards to all, lesk |

If they screwed you but are the best deal, get a mate to buy from them so as not to let them gloat and you can feel smug that you got the best deal at their expense !

Good points all around....
Gentlemen.....just getting back on my feet from a serious month's long bout with the flu. In my experience with the tire issue, I am going to have to throw my hat in with Rob Love. Summit is your best deal..... if you live in Vancouver. Free shipping to any US point from here is about a 45 minute drive there and 45 minutes back for me Crossing over is another story or coming back is another. I have been 2 1/2 hours for a $100.00 (non military) part. I have bought all my tires off of Summit because of the free USA shipping. Here in British Columbia, we are only charged GST (5%) on the product only..... Not on the shipping.
However, all points put forward are very valid, just depends on the individual. Chris's point about time is money/or how far will you go to save $12.00 .....well that's up to you. I know people here who would walk to the North Pole and back for that 12 bucks. To me ...it's the price of going to the dance! I don't have a lot of spare time, so I have to make the most. My shop (hanger) is 45 minutes from where I live in Vancouver and 45 minutes back home. So going over to the USA to buy tires or military parts is beneficial if you keep it under the $250.00 level. Delivered directly to Canada, as Chris says, you have to re mortgage the house! Mr Carriere's way of doing it (BULK) is a very good way if you can get everyone to agree and shop the price. Tough one to sometimes sell on this forum! And as for "Speedway" Tires Rob, from what I have read on them, they are not DOT rated. Have an accident with those puppies on and you can kiss your insurance and ass "goodbye"! Anyhow, that's just my 2 cents on the subject and as said....good points all around. cheers Robert |

Didn't know about the lack of DOT rating. I believe they are made in India....doubt DOT applies there. Besides the insurance thing, Customs can also refuse to let them in if they aren't DOT approved. You could always say they are for the front tires on the tractor.

Tires
Hi Chris....and others on this thread.... I have in fact tries Brian Asbury as well as Ralph Journeay....both about a 2 hour drive....the only other somewhat close source is Willy's Acres but as per previous post he screwed me on a 1942 MB restoration deal even though I gave him $30,000 up front and did not quibble on price so he is not an option even though he is only 25 minutes away. Here in Ontario the HST is 13% and delivery via USA would be brutal (a 3lb parcel from USPS) coming from Walcks, Eriks Military or other supplier (although they are great to deal with) is about $24 to $35US not including the CDN/US conversion so if my local Canadian suppliers (Brian & Ralph or local NAPA) do not have the parts I unfortunately have to shop the US suppliers and yes delivery prices are frightening. In fact, my last US order shipped via UPS....they charged me $40.00US for delivery of a <3lb parcel but also wanted $40.00 as a brokerage fee all for $35.00 US in parts.....I fought it and the brokerage fee was taken off as a one time gesture.....UPS delivery from the US....never again.
All the very best to you all..... lesk |

If used tires will do, I have quite a few 700x16 ND on M151 wheels. I haven't had a close look at them for a while, but I recall the condition ranged from like-new to worn out. I have no idea of the brand(s). I'm between London and Windsor, about 3 hours from Toronto. If you're ever down this way, drop in. You may be able to pick out a set that are good enough.

Tires
Hi Ed....thanks for your offer.....I may take you up on that in the spring. Right now I am going out for the second time to shovel snow here in Barrie. Used tires if in fair condition would be fine....if better I would be willing to pay. I will keep your contact info and replay sometime in the spring.
Cheers, lesk |

Sylmar Tire in Hawksbury
Hello
Just checked with Sylmar Tire in Hawksbury. They want $250.00 a tire, 7.00 x 16 Firestone NDCC. Not including tax and tire tax. Willys Acres is $215.00. Do not know of any cheaper at this point in time. I am looking for 5 tires as well. Was hoping to save a long drive as i am in eastern Ontario. Eric

Tires
Hi Eric....yup....Sylmar went from $200/tire (700x16) NDT or NDCC (6 months ago)to $255/tire as quoted me last week.
In 2016 I got royally screwed by Willy's Acres and will not deal with them even though they are only a 25 minute drive from my house. For local jeep parts I deal with Brian Asbury (Acton, Ontario) or Ralph Journeay (Niagara Military Parts). Posters on this site have turned me onto Huron Tire east of London, Ont. They sent me an estimate for (2) 700x16 NDCC tires for $216.00/each.....best deal yet in Canada.....however, also on this post several members like Bob Carriere can import tires from the US....you do the online purchase from several suppliers that sell the above tires for $130 to $154 US/tire...you just have to figure out if it works for you after the exchange....Bob is in Eastern Ontario near Sylmar Tire. I got lucky....a few days ago my in laws in New Brunswick saw an ad in a local buy and sell magazine for 3 brand new (still had the stickers on the tires)STA NDCC 700x16 tires for dirt cheap so they bought them for me.....now I just have to drive to NB to pick them up. I am still however looking at 2 to 5 more tires myself as spares and Huron Tire of Bobs offer looks to be the best. Best of luck. lesk |

road trip
You can't bring tires to Ontario after the family vacation to the Maritimes to Ontario. You're supposed to carry a lobster trap on the roof of the car!

Hi maple_leaf_eh.....been there and done that....I do not think that returning with a lobster trap applies after visiting in laws in NB.

Rubber ain't cheap anymore....
Sylmar is victim of price increases for tires in the USA and although shipping is "free" fuel cost have gone up so the tires are market up.
The big retailers in the States benefit from purchasing power at lower prices ad they may have a inventory on hand to keep moving..... small dealers or individual buyers like us are impacted by every last minute increase. Our Chevron tires from STA costed just over $200 dollars some 10 years back the same tires now retails for approx $325 US $$$. Bought any new snow grips for a Ford 250 recently???? That is a better increase/investment than gold bullions....... should have invested in rubber back then and sell them now at the new prices. Wait until you have to replace one rear tractor tire and see how far a $1000 will go!!

Further to Bob C’s point re: regular truck tires.
I do get a bit of a chuckle out of Canadian collectors and their frugality.... Just put a set of Goodyear Duratrax on my F250. Lucky the Company that I work for pays for them. Guys will squawk over a couple hundred bucks for new Jeep tires which really, are oddballs considering they are simply made for collector vehicles yet have little problem buying tires for the family car. Priorities I suppose.

Personally, I look at the measure of a military vehicle by the condition of the tires, glass and rubber parts. There is no piece of mind like new tires and tubes (except brand new brake systems and brand new wiring harnesses).

Quote:
14 tyres required for my 6x6 Landrover and trailer, looking at nearly $5000. A saving of 20 or 30 bucks per wheel equals real money at the end of it all.
