Machine Gunners foot rest ?
In the front at the gunners feet. Ten inches in front of the vickers ammo box mount, my LP2a, Victorian Railways carrier # 2054, has two pads welded to the floor eight inches apart, with 0 B A hex screws fitted. # 2058 also has these "pads". Of all the Aussie carriers/ and wrecks I've seen, only the 2000 series V.R. carriers seem to have these mounts.
Do overseas carriers have similar? gunner foot rests? are there any other Aussie carriers with them ?

Interesting observation. I have never seen these, mind you you need to know to look. According to the 1943 Spare Parts Catalogue only the driver had a foot rest, Part Nos 702-1 & 702-2. Put an image on this thread please. Secondly on my Carrier Database I have #2054 in NSW and no location for #6079. Can you PM me details of your Carriers. How do you know #2058 as it belongs to an South Oz collector? Bob

Forgot to mention, this Carrier was authorised under Order No. CCv.102 and appears to be a 7/1942 manufacture by Metgas.

Thanks for the return Bob, # The latest Carrier register seems to be the list collected by John Arnott for the Corowa Meet this Month - Jarnott@bigpond.net.au his edition No.8 has four pages of Aussie carrier owners with more to come.
# 2058 Reg's carrier - (on Jarnott List), he sent me his "foot rest" info, I gave him a lend of my original TARE sign stencil. # 2054 - the plot thickens, I had to cut off the stamping strip on the rear baulkhead, and have it inspected under a microscope, for the last number 3 appears to have been overstamped with a 4, I'll try and get a photo of that as well. The 2054 in NSW is it too over stamped ? maybe they had a real balls-up that day ? # I got 6079 here in WA from the owner of 6081. # I've driven 6084 long ago here - it is now in California, with the wrong No. painted on (4086) # I used to own 6009, that's another story.

For the benefit of readers, there turns out to be two "G7s" me in West Aust and the other in New Sth Wales. G7s - NSW, has a Sth Aust carrier #1407. From the photo of my stamp I claim again #2054 - for now.
Back to Gunners Foot Rests ? - please look at the floors. G7s - WA

The overstamping is interesting - a production line error or a later change.
The AWM records have a carrier listed with the hull No 284A. I haven't heard of "A" suffixes on carriers and wonder ifd this may be a poorly stamped "4". It is listed as an LP2, so 284 might be the correct hull number, so it begs the question, why the "A"? A replacement or rebuilt hull? Could it indicate an LP2 that was converted to LP2A spec?

If 284 was in fact 2844 then the manufacturer was Ford and not Metgas. My records show #161-#284 as LP2s but no manufacturer but then #285-#467 were also LP2s but manufactured by South Australian Railways.
Greame's Carrier #2054 looking at the stamping definitely started as #2053, but was that an error and it should have been #2054 or was it converted to a LP2A and the A stamping was put in the wrong place. However in saying that the A stamping on the Carriers I have seen is after the model stamping, i.e. LP2 to LP2A. It makes you wonder whether #2055 onwards were also re-stamped due to a numbering error. Bob
