Morning gents heres the latest unofficial rumor; We who are still serving will soon be refered to once again as the "CAF" vice the politically correct "CF" (we are already seeing the change in internal communications). Since the "royal" designation was returned to the Navy & Air Force, the big wheel of change will soon affect land force areas and units; 1 Cdn Div HQ will be known as 1 Cdn Div, SQFT (Quebec area) will become 2 Cdn Div, LFWA will be 3 Cdn Div, LFCA 4 Cdn Div, and last but not least LFAA will be 5 Cdn Div. I'd expect other units & branches will be affected ie the CME back to RCE? EMEs back to REME? apparently ther will be some change to branch mottos the CME will retain Ubique (everywhere) where as the RCA will return to their traditional translation... all over the damn place. No word on how the "Divs" would be organized. Thoughts?

Jay: How strong are the rumours? Anything based in fact?
If true, I wonder if any of this had to do with Leslie's plan which he presented before retiring. Speaking of rumours, I heard a real bad one recently. Like closing down the TC in about two years. Apparently you've had some high priced brass out snooping around lately. And...just how much actual training is going on? No training=no need for the facilities. Your thoughts?

I picked up on the new CAF name in a recent CANFORGEN by the CDS. At first I suspected some really old fashioned staff writing convention at work, but then a few days later I saw a news article that seemed to strengthen the suspicion.
We've got the RCN and RCAF. The navy officers got their executive curl back. There never was a Royal in the Canadian Army title (RCRs excluded). There are several branches that are the amalgam of the three services. Engineers for example are a purple cap badge, even though you'd be hard pressed to find any really dark blue Engineers. Any attempt to return to the name RCE would alienate two of the services. Am I all excited? Hardly. Same problems behind the new name plate. Too many HQs, perilously thin manning in many other organizations, impoverished capital programs and another decade of limited activity looming. (follow up thought) The Artillery will probably resent being called, all over the damn place. I prefer to call them, drop shorts. Some may think it is a compliment ....)

If you are referring to the Field Artillery, then all the slights apply. As for the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, we are used to the jealously of the younger arms. Carry on as if normal.

The latest unofficial word I've been hearing on the redesignating "Royal" is that the Canadian, EME branch is now the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers once again. I am sure to have full details to confirm this once back to work Monday morning.
