I’ve read this one elsewhere, not sure if it really happened.
At a place near to me the Germans practiced their bomber crews by letting them drop concrete bombs on a sand mound in the shape of a ship. The practice bombs can still be seen today. Source: https://www.tracesofwar.nl/sights/13...nnemerland.htm

Wood For Wood: The Riddle Of The Wooden Bombs
Some people have delved deep into this subject. One even wrote a book about it…
https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2...kely-true.html https://airminded.org/2012/01/21/the...-bombs-return/ https://www.forces.net/heritage/hist...ecoy-airfields But couldn’t the wooden bomb be a practice bomb like the concrete ones? “Pictured: The "fake bomb" that found fame on social media discovered at the Airborne Museum (Sainte Mère Église) in France | Credit: Airborne Museum - Sainte Mère Eglise – Normandy France”

Practice
Looks much too sophisticated to have been made just to drop on the opposition's dummy airfields.
More likely a practice bomb, as you say, Hanno. Wooden artillery rounds were common for practice - why not wooden practice bombs? Cheap and quick to manufacture. It has a metal sheathed nose by the looks of it. I wonder if there is a cavity in the back for a smoke pot or similar? Mike |

What would they have used for training personnel in loading bomb trailers, general handling procedures or loading various aircraft?
