Just showing my American Friends how we start our CMP's on cold winter days.

Try that here in manitoba on a cold winter day......I think you would have to re-design that crank for a lot more leverage.
But even on a warm summers day, that was very impressive. Every time I tried that with my Ford, I almost broke my elbow. |

I know I'm being a granny but a fellow that knows what he is doing makes this look easy, fun and not dangerous at all.
For those who have no experience or knowledge of crank starting, never wrap your thumb around the handle which is the natural way of gripping things. Always keep your thumb alongside your fingers. The reason for this is that in event of engine kick back it prevents the handle from maybe breaking your thumb or causing 'Chauffeurs Wrist' an injury where tendons are torn from the bone. I had a friend suffer this injury. We do tend to operate our engines with the timing more advanced than in the past and this makes kick back more likely to occur. As an aside, I know one fellow who sometimes used the simultaneous application of starter motor and crank handle to get his Fraud running. (Yes, requires two people) David

Timing is at top dead center or TDC.
Almost starts every time even when cold. Probably started it that way 200 times at events. I just stand there twirling the crank until someone says they recognize it or ask what it is. Motor is pretty tired which makes it easy just got to make sure it;s not in gear! |

Another one
I sorted out the C60S tipper out at CMEC and after a little TLC on Saturday I started it cold with the Hand Crank on Sunday morning. Little stiffer as there are only a few hundred miles on it. I think when you hand crank it you might be turning it over faster than the starter.. i get it going on the upstroke half using my knees standing up.
