Default Men of steel day

What a day yesterday was ,Im still buzzing from all the excitement in getting 17 tracked armoured fighting vehicles and assorted softskins together for a play at Ohinewai , beside the Waikato river here in the North Island. Tracked armour numbered 17 in total, consisting of a M3 Stuart, M41 Bulldog, Vallentines, M113 APC, FV 432 APC's, Chieftain, Hotchkiss SPZ 2, Scorpion, Halftrack, Loyd , LP2 and British carriers. This event was well organised and well attended by MV's as with the public who for a cold coin donation got to ride in some of the vehicles.
All proceeds from the gate went to the Waikato Child Cancer Foundation, a worthy cause.

Hats of to the organisers, it was a great day and I look forward to the next one.

Cheers David...

Last one for now, a Jimmy.
Must say I had a great day. Thanks to all concerned. I managed to get to ride in about five of the tracked vehicles, as well as catching up with a lot of people that I havent seen for some time.

David, I can fully understand your excitement. Judging from the images that Lynn posted it must have been a fabulous day. All the vehicles show they were subjected to pristine restorations and reflect the efforts put in by the owners. Very well done to everyone.

Bob

Default Men of Steel 2009

This Kiwi event ran to two days this year, held this last weekend.

Weather was perfect, and the venue superb. It was held in a big sand mine, with plenty of space and a good track and play area.

Vehicles included the local Chieftain, M41, Valentine III, a Scorpion and a Scimitar, Abbott, two 432, two M113, BMP(?), Hotchkiss, a 251 replica half track and a US half track, and 5 carriers. Also a ferret and M8 armoured car. Forgot to add: M3 Stuart and Hotchkiss.

Plenty of soft skins too. and a MASH chopper in action.
Quite a few Kiwi MLUers were there, so no doubt there will be pics posted soon, once people get home.

Rob

Default Here are some pics:

Two Kiwi carriers: an LP2 as built in 1942, and an LP2A as used in the 1950s as a MMG carrier.

An M113A1 as sent to Bosnia in the mid 1990's

A Universal Mk I Carrier

A BMP doing the compulsory Car Crush!
(The Chieftain was under mechanics care at the time. The BMP didn't have the weight to do the job as well as a MBT)

A few more random pics. What a weekend! Didn,t know where to look, where to point the camera & what to drive next! I think my highlights were driving the Valentine & Diamond T, getting the Scammell stuck, playing a bit harder in our carrier, meeting heaps of good buggers & basically everything else about the weekend! Roll on 2011, or when ever the next one is.

Awesome weekend. Couldn't have been better. I got a drive of a few carriers and the abott, but the hi-light was definitely driving the bayfield mule. It was an absolute laugh bouncing around in that thing with APC's cruising past and everyone pointing and laughing at us. ROLL ON THE NEXT TANK DAY!! Big thanks to the organisers and everyone that made it along.
