Default Arnhem 2011; Market Garden Remembrance

Although I remember the Arnhem anniversaries of the past few years as being sunny, this year was different. Not too bad, but kinda windy and cold. As a result about 10 para's from the traditional "mass drop" ended up in the hospital with minor (?) injuries.
About 60 veterans attended the ceremonies at the Ginkel Heath. As usual a number of interesting historic MV's turned up, most of which attended the Race to the Bridge.

Some familiar vehicles from Dutch owners, but also some new ones and a whole lot of MV's from the UK.

Hanno,

The link you posted looks very strange. Something wrong with the filmers format. For a better quality film click HERE We are passing at 2:40.
It was a great day. Talked to some Veterans from KSB at Hotel Hartenstein. One of them was commanding two 6 Pr's at Arnhem.
He told me one of the Jeeps towing the 6 Pr's broke down on the way to Arnhem. He then removed the striker box and they left the gun and Jeep. At night they drove back with the other Jeep to collect the gun. Hitching the gun to the Jeep he got his finger smashed and was jelling in pain. His sergeant told him to keep it down for not waking the whole bloody German Army.... His finger is still crooked. It is the Veteran on the left.

Default some more arnhem pictures.

here some of mine pictures of the arnhem event in september weekend.
there where jeep's, motorcycles, para bicyles, welbikes, bedford's, chevrolet's, humber's, austin's, ford's, kubel's and all of this was put on the road to form the colom to race to the bridge. I think there where a 100 vehicles and lots and I mean lots of people to watch us drive by. the last part of the race there where that much people the road was only as wide as my truck.
the children were doing hi fives with the drivers.
It was a wonderfull day and still there where many british veterans

Hi Jaap

Thanks for posting more photos of the Arnhem race to the bridge. I have been following the Arnhem forum with interest. I would love to have been there in person as watching the video and photos bought back many memories of when I last visited Arhem with my wife in 2000. We visited the war cemeteries and musuem's.

Cheers

Tony
