Hanno,

I am due for a training class in the UK. We arrive 01Oct05 - too late for Beltring - what else is on in the UK that ( and the next ) weekend?

Here is another forum member that will be there. You cannot beat it, whatever some may say.

There may well be an antipodean member there briefly, as well.

Stewart check MilWeb > Events Calendar. Doesn't seem there's a lot going on early October.

So who was there? What did we miss - the dust? FV623 tells us it rained...

I saw that Aussie LP2A Carrier s/n 1499 I photographed in 2003 was there again, repainted and all!

Hanno,

Just returned from 7 days at Beltring, a lot of new vehicles not seen there before. Yes, there was dust but good efforts were made by the fire crew to keep the roadways damped down with an ex-RAF Thornycroft Mk9 crash tender.

Today, last day, Sunday, started with light drizzle which cleared away by 3pm allowing an aircraft to drop Poppies over the site. The water did not really penetrate the ground as when driven over the mud lifted away to reveal dust!

Hanno, there were two South Australian Railway built carriers there, the other was one brought in by David Shopland and his son, James.

Very good show from my point of view, met many from all parts of the world as usual. Tired out now, so off for an early night.

Richard,

There were two Australian LP carriers?!? - in that case the picture above could be showing not LP2A s/n 1499 but the other.

Good to hear it was a very good show! I know Rod `T-16` Shaver from the USA was there. Did any of our Canadians friends attend?
I see that frightfully nice Mr Schickelgruber was there as well, I hope he didn't spoil the fun...

To say nothing of the "accurately" dressed girlie http://cm.thewarandpeaceshow.com/gal...MG_0850?full=1
in the background:

1) What seems to be a celtic tattoo on her right wrist.

2) British pattern gas mask bag.

3) Red died hair (she would make a good 1999 Ost Deutsche
Volk re-enactor).

4) Velco type wrist watch band.

Hanno,

The Aussie carrier no 1499 is still the same as last year, the one on the web site you saw is the Shoplands one. I did not see a data plate on it so do not know the number. They told me it was SA built. I noted the name "Sunshine" cast on the suspension (or was it wheels?) and know that they were farm machinery manufacturers near Melbourne, Vic. To the Down Under carrier experts, does that give a clue to who built it?

Thanks for clearing that up, Richard. The tally for Australian LP Carriers in Euroep now stands at three, as far as I know.

Any new CMPs at the show? W&P website shows a pic of a 12 Cab F60L:

A No.13 cab Ford FAT FGT has appeared, thought to be ex-Portugese and very original, sorry no photos of it.

Nice to be there again, plus the nice conversations about our CMP hobby with several guys from New Zealand - Australia - Canada - USA - Norway - Denmark - Ireland - Greece plus the well-known CMP guys from UK - Holland and Belgium. Most of the guys had no "connection" with MLU forum. Next year some MLU flyer's on our table Geoff ?

Up to Beltring next year, but first Wings & Wheels.

Mvg. Dirk

Richard,

Great would love to see it someday. When I saw it tucked away in 2001 I wondered if it would ever see the light of day again.

Yes, I drove down from London on the friday, but Bomb-induced avoidance of the Public Transport system meant everyone in London chose to drive on that day. The traffic (and lack of short-cut road knowledge) meant I didnt get down to Kent until late in the day. In fact it was after 5pm and they still wanted to charge the full 13 quid even though they closed at 6. Saturday was not an option in my timetable, so I headed back to the relatives. Im surprised you didnt hear me swearing outside.
Thank you Richard, for your help and offers of assistance. We will meet again another time.

Concur with the idea (thanks Dirk!), but as far as The Canadian Register is concerned, the more the merrier! Between MLU, Keefy's incredible Old CMP site, Rod Diery, and all the others, we've got an unprecedented worldwide representation! This is SO neat...

Tony,

I am sorry you were not able to make it earlier for the show, I can imagine you were annoyed, it would have been possible to come in and stay for the evening, but it would still have not been enough time and the stalls would have been shut down by then.

Hope you can make it again. There are some more from NSW making noises about coming over next year, sounds like they are coming in force!

Richard

Its a bit of a puzzle, obviously a lot of time taken to compile and present an album of images but some 30% of the German titled vehicle images are total fakes and not German at all.

Bit misleading wouldn't you say?

I hadn't even checked that folder - nah, who knows the difference after 60 years? As long as they run around the arena, eh?

Default fakes

all I have done is take a load of photos and pass them on to anyone who may be interested, so that you all can make up your minds.
a lot of money is spent trying to relive history and give us a feeling of what ww2 was all about.
I dont think anyone is trying to fool us, but to give us an indication as to what these vehicles were like, with a lot of expense to themselves

Dennis, you´re right. Thanks for taking the pictures to show the vehicles that were present at Beltring to the people who were not there.

I agree with Hanno and am happy to see the photos even if they are only a representation of the real thing. Myself, I am no expert on German stuff, ( or anything else for that matter ): but can appreciate the $$$ and time some of these guys have invested in vehicles to take to shows for uninformed persons like me to view. It is only a travesty if they try to sell them as something they are not. Hopefully next year I can make it to Beltring to help Dirk at his stall. Stefan should be married off by that point and we all know what happens then. "Sorry honey, but you are staying home".

But. . . . . . . .Suppose, McSpool, they were post-war trucks (et al) faked up to look like CMP's, would the same attitude apply?

You mean like these?

Source

Of course these are a real vehicle in their own right - they are of course ACCOs and were developed to replace the CMP - the prototype even used a CMP cab.

Point is, they are often called Blitzes here too, even advertised as ACCO Blitzes.

If there were other fakes, though I'd be up in arms - and how did Bart Vanderveen feel? His opinions were well put in W&T editorials.
