2/4 reserve motor trans. coy. A.I.F
Can anyone give me any information about the vehicles, equipment etc used by the 4th res motor trans. coy. of which my great granddad, Sophus George Nelson WX 10941 was a driver of? he enlisted Feb 41, and sailed from Fremantle to Singapore ariving 24th april. He did 3 trips up to Kuala Lumpur.
On black friday 13th feb 42, japanese planes raided 4th res.M.T. twice within an hour distroying 27 of 'd'section's 40 motor lorries but by some miricle there were no casulties, unlike the AAA crews next door who lost 9. His last job was shifting pearl hill hospital equipment to the raffles hotel under shell fire on the 15th feb. He returned to camp at 7pm to find they had surrended at 5pm. He was then captured at the fall of singapore and spent the rest of the war on the railway. By some miricle he managed to keep a full diary during his time as a pow so we have a fantastic record of his time with "A" force
