Mk1 carrier 11 set wireless installation
Gents, I'm installing an 11 set at the moment and in the link below to a mk1 carrier showing the 11 set radio carrier on the right track guard there is two 'wooden pieces' below the radio carrier. Now these are mentioned in the 11 set to 19 set installation instructions as being removed when mounting the 19 set carrier.
There are small holes in my track guard which appear to be for self tapping screws which secure these 'wooden pieces' in place. My question is, what are they for?, and does anyone have any other pics or details of them as this is the only pic I have seen of them. There appears to be a central stud/bolt in the upper centre of them. Kevin. https://picasaweb.google.com/m/zoom?...portHeight=416

I expect they are to hold the 11 set seat/cover which is stowed below the set. Without the blocks the cover would bounce out. They need to be removed for the 19 set adapter tray because it sits directly on the running board.

Hi Bruce, I will trial fit the seat/cover under the wireless carrier, but looking at it the wooden battery's might be to far apart.
Kevin.

Wireless cover stowage.
Hi, Bruce you are correct, item 22 in stowage pic attached, I think on early carriers 40 to 41 they used countersunk screws to hold the wood, on later ones like in the stowage pic of the 43 carrier above they used countersunk bolts that go right through the wood.
I think it must of been a tight sliding fit as I'm unsure how it was stopped from sliding back out? Kev.

Hi Bruce, yes got the picture many thanks, will trial fit the cover and put up some pictures. By the way is there a small slither of wood under the valve storage box/tray between the box/tray and track guard?.
Kev.

I can't say. Mine wasn't attached and the imprint of corrosion under it doesn't say one way or the other. My instinct tells me if there wasn't a part listed in the parts book there probably wasn't one. The only alternative is that there isn't a part number because the wood was considered part of the bin (hence no separate number) but this isn't typical of Ford. |

Wood packing
Bruce, I will check in the parts book for the countersunk screw lengths required, I suspect they list 1/2" long, which would mean no wood, unlike the ammo storage box which lists 1 3/4" long bolts, here's the original wood packing, two pieces sandwiched in there.

Packing
The screws are listed at 1/2" long same as the smoke bin which doesn't have any packing. Mystery solved, but I thought I would ask.

Ah Adrian... that base was installed at the factory for the NO-11 wireless set. When the NO-19 Set was issued, that former factory base was removed and returned to stores.
Will you install a NO-11 Set or a NO-19 Set? |
