AWM 126
The AWM have not copied any of the 126 series and are not planning to at this point which means the only way is to either hope someone else has photographed or transcribed them or to go in there yourself.
They are not allowed to be photocopied because they are too fragile to be spread out on a copier. Apparently someone has been through the exercise of transcribing all the Jeep registrations.

Digitising ARN records is a big job as I, and some other members of REMLR know. This is what the Big Blue Books look like.
and some information about them. Quote:

Thats a big ledger ! .
Looks like the 128 was the last thing to go onto the truck before the civy paintjob i sanded back a corner of the 4th Armd bde sign and there is only the same paint as under the white numbers also if you look carefully where the chipped paint is you can see the layers of paint . I really need someone to come to my place and take a look to confirm what i am seeing . I also found under the Hood/cover on the left a 5A and on the right a 943 which i assume are the F15A and 1943 seen in some of keiths photos ? . |

ARN's
Hi Richard,
I agree that to digitise the whole lot of volumes is a big ask, but if you are just looking at WWII vehicles then the list is much shorter. Hi Plushy, it is possible to deduce which volume your F15A lies in as you already know the ARN. With MY truck, I only had the engine number and had to go through all the records of 1942-43 era (my engine number starts with a 3 prefix which is 1942 manufacture...) I then found the ARN. You blokes with ARNs had it EASY! In the photo Richard has, you can see the type of details left. It will tell you what type of truck you have and its disposal and where it was initially delivered to. The hard yards is, as Max has pointed out, the ultimate disposition, or unit. Agreed there is a lot of records, but are we not preservers of equipment? Also, as many have done before, it is a pilgrimage to the AWM and finding YOUR truck's ARN in a book which makes the looking so much the better! Ian

numbers
Quote:
On some the numbers were nicely hand painted as on my FGT which used the Ford model code C291 and then F.A.T. 4X4. Often, with vehicles which saw long service such as the gun tractors they were repainted several times resulting in a look like this when they weathered. It's had at least three repaints not counting the sawmill red which has completely weathered away. The last army coat was gloss deep bronze green.

stencil under the bonnet was 15 or 15A
For example under the bonnet the numerals will reflect the model & Year.

I don't have any Order of battle lists that show what formation the 2 LAA Regt was allocated to, so the Formation sign is also a mystery. Not a lot can be made out, but this is what I can see:

There is definately another 2 above the bottom one and you can almost see a one above the bottom one .
Here another way of looking at the image i used a image outline finder to see what i could find . This shows the ARN number better and you can see the 128 a bit clearer . I am going to try some other photo filters to see if i can spot anything else . |

sun shine roof
Hi James, It's just an observation but the corner tie down point on your sunshine roof on the F15a are Holden not Ford, so I suspect the roof is from another truck. The windscreen frames are Chev.I may have a lot of the parts you require, so send a list.

Hi Euan ,
Is the any other way to tell if the sunshine roof belongs there or not ? Some of the obvious things i am after is windscreen frames ,front grill , radiator , motor [i have found the original but the current owner doesnt want to sell it ] ,dash , tyres , rear gs body ,another fuel tank and the list will go on. I have to work out whats missing and go from there . |

James, this is a Ford roof, note the corner fixings for the rope.

Well i got the roof off and it appears Euan is right i sanded back some of the paint and there is only 4 layers the nose of the truck has 7 or 8 layers so it looks like its had the roof swapped at some time . Apart from the corner fixings are there any other differences between the ford and Chev roof`s ?.
Max if i cant find one closer i will take you up on the grill , it will give me a chance to drool over your collection and to do some sniffing around up your way . |

Hi Plushy,
Ian made a bit of a mistake in his description of me and out similar ARN. My name for starters (which i dont care about, as i`ve been called worse and had it spelt worse too! ) but i actualy have an F15A - ARN 54783, not an F60 and i`m in Sydney, not Dubbo! I am in the process of slowly sanding down layer by layer to trace history of the vehicle and also if there are any unit signs etc. For interests sake, in the AWM records, for my ARN, it turned out that my truck was classified as an Office Body, not a GS body- so if you run across any office body bits (canvas, poles, fittings such as seat/tables etc), let me know! I still have the original body which appears to have signs of the original mounting holes though i have no more bits. Apparently my trucks pretty complete from what ive been told so if i can help out with any pictures or dimensions, just let me know! I also only know very little about these vehicles- jeeps = heaps, blitzes = nil at the moment! Cheers and good luck with your resto. Ian.
