Default Rcaf cprc-510

Hi,
Does anyone know why the RCAF used the CPRC-510?
I have just acquired a -510, manufactured in 1956. The dataplate states
Royal Canadian Air Force, Receiver-Transmitter, RT-5010/PRC510, Serial No. 275.
This is a low serial number leading me to think this was a number series for RCAF radios.
This is a VHF set not a UHF set.
So, what was its allocated usage?
Thanks in advance.
Ian
