Australian Centurions
Hello
I am looking for information on the modifications done to the Centurions when in Australian service and if any military manuals exist with the modifications detailed. Thanks for the help, Carl |

Sometime contributor and MLU Member Shane Lovell has written an authoritive book on the Aust Cents, which is available through Mouse House Enterprises. This book contains plenty of photos from Aust and Vietnam and drawings from the Mil EMEIs covering the modifications, and tables giving ARNs and Callsigns during various years. Well worth a read.

Hello Tony
Thanks for the fast reply! I may be in Australia the first two weeks in December and will try to find that book while I am there. I am also hoping to visit with some LP2A owners if possible. Thanks again, Carl |

Australian Centurions
If you want to find anything on the Centurions used by the Australian Army. Go to Col Filtness's site Steel Thunder.
Take plenty of biscuits and coffee, you will be there for hours. Literally........ I can guarantee that there is no other site on the web that details EVERY Centurion as used by the Australian Army and since they have been moved on. Complete with full lists and photos. Hell of a nice guy too. |

if you are going to spend any time in sidney there are only 3 places i found to spend money in our hobby, alaxanders books, and 2 surplus / gun shops near the train station.
the gun shop if first rate and has lots of good firearms and repo uniforms, the surplus shop not so much (junk mostly) and the guy is a jerk. but ask for directions to the first fleet display and the anzac memorial. you cant miss it. dave

Centurion Tanks
I have just had a short nose through the site, and quite see what Ian meant about coffee and biscuits.
My short visit lasted over an hour, and was nowhere near complete. Although I was not Armour or did any work on the Centurion, I have memories that the first unit I was attached to (2 Field Regt R.A.) trialled one as some sort of Command Post. Whether it was for a Battery or the Regiment I cannot remember. It still had the Stab system fitted, and more than one Gunner very nearly had a modified head when it was being driven round the Gun Park. Paul. |
