Just finished shock absorbers underneath the carrier. I made them from a similar shape shock absorbers which were available over here. They are about 8mm higher than originals but I can live with it I guess.

OK, so after a while Im back with my WS19 project. Chris, have you had a chance to make couple of pics of your No.25 carrier, please? It would help me a lot because there is still a lot of unclear things to me. Many thanks in advance!

There is only one (very long) strap used on the Carrier No.25 and you will need to make up an adapter plate for the supply unit.

The fixed end of the strap attaches to the side of the supply unit (using the 'keyhole' slots), then passes underneath the carrier to the right hand side, goes around the wireless set, and the adjustable end attaches to the adapter plate which is screwed to the top of the supply unit case.

The adapter plate (I do not have, and need to make one for my own carrier) is needed to 'reverse' the keyhole slots in the top of the supply unit case - as designed, the slots are to the left (for when the supply unit is laid on top of the set on Carrier No.22), and Carrier No.25 needs them pointing to the right.

The plate also needs a 'step' rolled into it so that the keyhole slots are clear of the top of the supply unit by enough distance that the studs on the strap end plate (the adjustable one) can fit through the holes.

Question: has anyone got one of the adapter plates (it's shaped like a house) and can supply measurements? (If not, we'll have to work it out from the diagram in the "Carriers, Set (Various)" manual.)

Chris.

Thanks Chris! Yes, picture of the adapter plate would certainly help!
Is the plate supposed to be screwed through these 4 holes on the top?

Yes. Those holes are used for the "ZA.10203 Plate, Seating" when mounting the variometer on top of the supply unit.

If you can't find the long clamping strap for the set and supply unit, it's probably best to get a complete strap of any length and replace the webbing portion with one of the required length. (The metalwork is probably difficult to make from scratch and the knurled nuts and 'T' bolt for the end is threaded 5/16 inch British Standard Cycle Thread! (You can get taps and dies for that on eBay but they are not particularly cheap.))

Best regards,
Chris

So the easier part is done, now i will have to dig it out of a sheet.
Chris, the adapter plate should look somehow like this? I sniffed everywhere on the net and in my papers and found absolutely nothing about it. Unicorn item obviously.

Not quite like that, but very close and probably easier to make.

There's a 'step' rolled into the plate, about level with the middle of the supply unit connector, and a little deeper than the 'buttons' on the strap end. The 'cups' in your drawing should be keyhole slots like on the earlier supply units.

The "Carriers, Set, Various" (Doc 1583 in the WS19 group archive) has a diagram of Carrier No.25 (I think), but if not there's an oblique drawing of it i Wireless for the Warrior Volume 2 on page WS19-61. The Batten, Terminal, 2-pt, No.4 is mounted to the vehicle table (under the set) instead of on top of the adapter and supply unit, and that illustration shows the later type of carrier mounting clamps that use Barry Mounts instead of the "Bridge" type of shock absorbers.

The adapter plate is very scarce because the later Wireless Set C12 supply unit had the keyhole slots reversed, so didn't need the adapter.

*ALL* mounting hardware is scarce, because it was usually scrapped with the vehicle, or removed and scrapped when the radio fit was updated.

Best regards,
Chris.

Thanks Chris, now its clear! I have 1583 (and thanks for that!) - there is a nice sketch of No.25, unfortunately no adapter plate nor parts under the carrier itself.
Im sorry about my endless questions but as it seems that I will have to make it I want to make it right. And every picture or info counts. So thanks again.

Lots of WS19 stuff on ebay, you are right Ron, but mostly "regular" parts.

OK, so here it is. I made it from 2mm sheet which is a bit thicker than original I guess, but still happy with it.

Petr.

Your choice of 2 mm sheet was a good one. The originals are just a little too thin and the burled nut is easily overtightened causing the plate to flatten directly underneath it and the sheet metal torn open right back through the hole, rendering the plate useless.

Nice work as usual, by the way!

David

Beautifull work Petr.
Could you post some pictures and description of how you made the parts, (and also of your other great work).
I'm sure many of us would like to try some of your methods.
Regards
George

Thank you all!
I have no pics from the process, but it was pretty straightforward. I made simple forming fixture from the thicker sheet and otherwise I used couple of hammers and vice. And of course lathe and drill.
And thats it.

Thanks Petr.
