wiringharness
Request:
is it possible the civilian 1939-42 Chevrolet 1 1/2-ton wiring harness's and gauges maybe the same part number or identical to that used in the Chevrolet CMPs. There are some very good reproduction harness's for 1939 -42 civilian Chevrolets now being produced . |

Highly unlikely for harness yes on early instuments
The position of switches distance from switch to light are not similar between civilian and CMP. I have rewired two Chevy Pattern 13 CMPs and have used the old harnesses as patterns using the correct color and pattern wire then having the harness loomed so that they are identical as possible to the original. Currently working on harness for Chevy Pattern 12. All of the connectors are available from various sources.
Now the early instrument (rectangular) panels are standard Civilian Chevy instrument panels. The later instrument panels (with round gauges) are basically standard military gauges common to US military vehicles.

Hope this helps
First question is do you have the wiring diagram from the manual if not see http://www.canadianregister.co.uk/do...ordmanual.html unlike the Chevy manual it does not list the wire sizes like the Chevy manual http://www.canadianregister.co.uk/do...evymanual.html in comparing the wiring diagrams I noted that for some reason it looks like they used different wire color trace patterns. The instrument panel wiring on the Chevs is listed as 16 gage though some of it is much heavier so look at the logic of the loads carried.

Wiring sources.....
Does any body know of reliable and affordable source for the wiring stock......
Having been at tractor and old engine shows they do have vendors selling a variety of colored wires, various gauge, etc...... The secret is that the new replacment stock is modern plastic covered wiring that should not crack as readily as the orignal stuff.... and it is covered witha variety of wooven colered covers... Are the color scheme used on CMP readily found in repro dealers?? Bob C.

Re Reliable Source
I started laying out the wiring harness for the Pattern 12 this week to work out how much of each color wire and will be ordering wire for that and wire for a 1944 C15 harness (copy of the harness in the picture above) for a friend in the very near future. I have two different sources of wire, connectors, and looming that I will be calling for delivery time and cost. So will be able to let everybody know what the current costs are very soon.
Related report on 6 volt halogen headlights bulbs. I installed and did comparison testing on headlight units’ pre-focused halogen and the original bulbs (will post pictures and light output info soon on my web page) in short the halogen bulbs do not have a higher candle power out put, however the halogen light pattern is larger and more even.

Follow-up to wiring diagram
Just found the pattern 11 and 12 wiring diagram for Chevy CMPs. Though they do not match my Pattern 12s orginal harness in all respects.
Also has anybody come across the wiring diagram for the trailer harness connector? Has anybody encountered what appears to be electric brake concections on CMPs?

wiring
Phil, I have not seen a diagram for the trailer harness or electric brake hook up, I do have a wiring harness diagram for a 11 cab and an 12 cab chevrolet, the drawings are not the same for the 11 and 12 Chev. Both show color and gauge size's.

Strange CMP snake sighting in New Hampshire
Bob asked a while back for the name of a reliable supplier of wire for CMP wiring harness materials , cloth covered vinyl wire, and looming. Well I just went through purchasing the wire making up the harness and sending out to have the covering loomed onto the harness.
Here is the time line of project-- June 19 ordered wire, June 21th received spools of wire, (June 22-26 away at Cadwell, June 27 started laying out the harness on pin board, June 30th shipped harness out to be loomed, July 3rd received the loomed harness back. The out fit I used is one I have used before Rhode Island Wiring Service Inc http://riwire.com/ I told them in my first e-mail that I was pushing to get the harness installed in a truck for a show at the end of July and they gave me very fast turn around. Now as to cost: Wire and connectors approximately $205 US (I say approximately because I ordered enough wire for 3 trucks) cost to have the looming done on one harness was $114 US. Another good outfit that I’ve used in the past is http://www.vintagewiringofmaine.com/ my selection this time was driven by who responded first (Vintage Wiring was away at the MVPA convention when I sent out my e-mail checking on wire availability and looming turn around.) Now I’ve got to install the harness and then put the wire terminals on, almost a shame to put this nice clean harness into the truck as it will undoubtedly be oil covered in 100 miles or so.
