You may have guessed looking at the very crude igntion system that I was itching to see how it would run.

So we used an ancient but well known receipe....

Default Firing her up

Cranked her over to bring up oil pressure then hit the ignition button and she ROARED into life!!!! It ran a little rough but once my good mate Howard & myself had tinkered with carbie settings and the Idle circuit she eventually settled down to a beautiful steady beat.

Side valve V8's have the sweetest note, I pity guys who are only interested in modern Fast 4's.

When I find out (hopefully from one of you guys on MLU) how to do the youtube thing I will footage of it running.

Nice Work on the truck mate. Nothing like the old monkey face blitz's especially the Ford one's!

Before Utube comes along perhaps you'd like to learn that you can upload up to 5 photos onto the one post instead of a post per photo. All you do is wait till the first photo is uploaded then press 'Browse' again and repeat the process.

Default Work in progress

Apologies to all who have had to look at one picture per post.

Howard has shown me how to resize photo's to reduce the amount of bytes they take so I'll do that from now on Cliff.

I must admit I was trying for dramatic effect as well but this seems to have failed dismally

Anyway I'm having fun

Default Nice going Tony....

...... nice to see the "Golden Arches" of the cab11/12...... so simple yet soooo complex.....

Make sure you get the engine sorted out good before putting up the cab or you will be sorry...... they were not designed for ease of access.

Default Feedback

At last, many thanks Bob for a comment on the truck. Any advice is more than welcome. We can attest to access of the engine as we got Howards cab12 going in a paddock. Keith has also advised me that some of the components in the engine bay were black such as the starter motor the generator and the spark plug conduits. You may also notice the carbie does not have the correct set up for the choke cable (so I'm told) nor is the fuel pump the original type (so I'm told)

I invite MLUer's to engage with me on this thread please.

The 'choke cable' is not a cable but a shaft with a typical Ford spring-loaded ball and socket on the carby end, rather like the throttle linkage on the other side.

Hi Tony,
one of the vagaries of the internet is it is hard to gauge interest in your posts/projects and so on. I find that it helps if you look at the veiws counter on "Index" page in each section. By my count you have had 253 (A great sounding number in its own right) interested veiwings. Thats either Howard trying to boost your morale by checking your post every five minutes, or quite a few genuinley interested parties following along, or as I like to think of it, Stalking......
One of the great Aussie traditions is to pick faults in everything, whenever/wherever possible, which means that no news is good news, which means you are doing everything perfectly! And as all MLUers are honory Aussies, this amounts to quite an accolade.
Have fun with the old girl, I'll sit back quietly and watch........I like to watch.....
(Oh dear not sure I like the sound of that, back to the shed I think,)

Default There we go going kinky again.....

...for a minute I thought it was Jiff replying......

....but I must admit watching can be fun...... watching someone else work I mean...... I am good at that being a long time Pubic Servant!!!

Still trying to work out the bugs on my cab 11 before fitting the a FORE mentioned SKIN.....

Seems I will have to pull the floor plates to gain access to the adjusting rods of the Hi - Lo shifting rods in the T case..... in fact... I may have to drop the whole T case assembly to do the adjustment......

Now I know why so may old CMP had the original shifter removed and individual shifting levers butchered in place.....

After watching Rob do and undo only to redo again is starter I can see how we learn the tricks of the CMP..... the slow - patient - hard way !!!!

Don't be concerned with absolute historical accuracy for the Ford...primary goal to to get it running in a sfae dependable fashion...... after all you would be hard pressed to find 1940 air to inflate the tires...'esscouse me....tyres!!!!

Default Fantastic

Thanks fellahs

A bit of banter & a bit of feedback that makes me feel all warm & fuzzy & gives me a much needed lift to get stuck into it.

I have observed with much awe & admiration some very articulate, eccentric hilarious, querky and random conversation on this forum and absolutely love it.

Seems to me the internet desperately needs more forums like MLU. Certainly in the espirit de corp that it captures.

Apologies for my French. Is there a spell sheck on this thing???

Default Je n'ai jamais rien vu de tel!

Glad you're enjoying the banter. Just wait till we really start to take the p15S out of you!

As for the internet needing more like this I couldn't agree more.

Have a look at this for some fun writing.

Tony, you have now achieved a forum milestone; that of derailing your own thread.

tony It's always good when you start them up, keeps you enthused. Bet you can't wait to get out on the open road now with your chest out and your head held high, as the owner of fords do.

Max finally! Great to have a yarn to you on MLU

Your right I cant wait! It'll go now but Ive got to make it stop as well.
I still dont have any pics on how the front brake lines are supposed to look. I can easily run two metal lines from the master cylinder down to the flex hoses but the vague pictures Ive got in the old manuals tell that this isnt so.

A question I'd like to ask the forum is were the brake systems different on a F60L 2pounder anti tank portee to a F60L with GS Body?

Fuel lines as well are they any different and if not, how are they set up regardless.

Tony I believe the fuel and brake lines are the same regardless of whether it is used as a portee or a GS as the basic chassis were the same on all F60L body types. They may however differ between a 11/12 and 13 cab F60 but probably not all that much.

Hi Tony I took some photos under Keith's blitz I hope they help, if you want other angles just ask and I will try to get them.
Off the back of the master cylinder; top pipe rons along right chassis rail to front right wheel, middle pipe runs across the crossmember to the left chassis rail and to the left front wheel, the bottom pipe runs across the crossmember to the left chassis rail then back to the rear axle.
Sorry I could only get one photo up today the clouds and rain keep cutting my conection to the saterlight let me know what other angles you require.
