An old thread, but since many will use it for reference, I suggest that the reference to 503-321 as being FS34087, although it will give good contrast, is not correct. A recent check of the NSN for the 503-321 olive green showed me that the Canadian military started using FS34084 as the Federal Spec for the paint colour after Canada dropped the CGSB specifications.

So I would humbly suggest the following:

Black 501-310: USe a flat black like the oil based tremclad or any suitable flat black

Flat green 503-319: Use the CARC or Carc substitute of 383 green

Olive Green 503-321: Get paint mixed to that colour of 503-321 or FS34084, or, as I did, get some of Brian Asbury's paint which is matched to the original 503-321. Failing those, use the Gillespie FS34087, available from RAPCO or Willys acres.

Mark: On the one hand, none of your camouflage patterns are by the book. On the other hand, many soldiers did not seem to have access to the cam patterns either.

That's the first cam pattern LSVW I have ever seen. Kind of reflects back to the dark days when softskin was considered front line equipment. Hopefully we never sink to those levels again.

Default LSVW Camouflage

I don't think the LSVW fleet was ever painted in the three-colour camouflage as it was discontinued by the time they were delivered to the CF. I do have evidence of CF LSVWs in UN white and desert tan.

The closest I could find in my database was this image of a vehicle with a S250 Shelter.

The shelter would have either been transferred over from a 5/4 ton, or, judging by the NATO paint scheme, been a more recent purchase from US stocks. I don't recall ever seeing a gas 5/4 ton with the NATO paint scheme.

What would be the point of camouflaging an LSVW anyway? You would still hear it coming for a mile by the sound of the brakes.

Default LSVW Camouflage

For sure none of the Canadian LSVW fleet was never painted in the NATO camouflage and yes the shelter had just been delivered new. Here is an image of a new LSVW with its recently installed NATO camouflaged generator.

Ah yes, the distinctive squeaky LSVW breaks.

It’s a military vehicle and must b a fun project.
After painting 60or more MVs since I starting playing with them in 1995
I like to paint how I feel now , as u can see a LS in camo
And it looks good for Me.
As for the mutt rob ,it’s dead on right and there is no right Lol
Paint jobs on a Canadian mutts we’re all a little different by the fact that some guy with a paint brush was told to just paint it all green and if u run out to-bad
Next time

All the mutts in Alberta’s scrap yards here varied by up to over 15” on color lines sometimes
And white and almond for winter place ment is is a hole other
Can of worms that took me 8 diffrant halves in two diffrant yards to figure
Out.

There is no right with Canadian camo in those days Evan
If they had a drawing to go off of the patterns would just come out
Diffrant

It’s ok to say it Rob
That’s the best looking Canadian mutt u have seen
Lol

Second or third best Marcos. I was always partial to mine in it's original semi gloss green. The one vehicle I should never have sold. Since then, I painted up an uncut one at work. I bought 30 of the 31 M151A2s that were in Shilo.....this was the one that got away. The supply guy picked the nicest one for the museum, then base maintenance intentially ran it out of oil, threw two rods, and removed all the driveshafts and gears out of the transmission. But what a body....

Great looking Mutt. For my own curiosity, I see the 383 and the flat black, is the last colour the 321 (original or from Brian) or is it one of the CGI numbered paints Rob speaks about earlier in the thead. Fantastic job. Steve

Thumbs down

Painted my m100 today. My buddy brought over his Iltis trailer to be done too. Although it should be just CARC 383. His Iltis is the 3 color cam and the combo just didn't look right. Some units did paint Iltis trailer, so thats my story and I'm sticking to it
