Would the unit have fit through the hole with that clip still installed? If so, you gotta wonder how many of these sending units might have been installed with that little clip still on them. After all the work of pulling the radios and floorboards, changing the unit, then re-installing it all, it would not have been a nice feeling to turn on the ignition to see a empty reading.
One would have expected either a small tag or perhaps an extra bend on the clip preventing it from going into the tank. I find the Iltis to be kind of like basic training.....the further in the past it is, the fonder the memories are of them. Ask me again in 20 years how I feel about them I guess. I had a barrack box of parts for the Iltis that I got as part of a half triwall of parts from a local auction. Gord Falk (who has an Iltis) came by yesterday, and it was all I could do to get him to take some of the stuff. I can now inventory what remains and throw it on the selling section. |
