Prairie Command/Shilo outing
Members of Prairie Command just spent a balmy +18C Sunday afternoon in the Bill Gregg Collection hosted by the museums curator Clive C. Prothero-Brooks, and of course the man who knows more about the nuts and bolts, and CMP grease of the collection Rob Love. Clive likes to see things running, and he did not dissappoint us. They fired up the 4- Wheel Drive Company Ammo Truck 1916, and the Ford Lynx Mk ll. The Stuart was a little shy on battery juice, but what a sight! Dingos, Staghounds, Otters, HUA, Priests, Fats, C15TA,Sexton, Bofors, the list goes on! Clive, I was very impressed with your enthusiasm about your collection, keep up the good work, and good luck with your new building and all you are trying to accomplish there! Cheers Rob Fast

"Priests"?!? As in multiple M7 105-mm Howitzer Motor Carriages? I was not aware the Bill Gregg Collection had any M7 Priests. Can you tell me in what sort of condition they are in? If any of them is missing the 105-mm howitzer, it could be an ideal candidate to turn it into a Priest Kangaroo! Regards, Hanno |

Yes there is a Priest there with a single 105mm gun mounted. Sorry no picture. Cheers Rob

I believe the priest was salvaged off the ranges in Germany by MWO Oliver and gang in the late 80s.It was brought to Shilo when 1 RCHA was repatriated here on the closing of Canada's assets in Germany.

Bundeswehr M7B2

Thanks for the tip. That would make it an M7B2 Priest, a Korean Wartime modification of the M7B1, the type with Ford GAA V8 engine. To reconstruct a Priest Kangaroo, one would need an M7, the Continental 9-cyl. radial-engined variant. See http://mitglied.lycos.de/hartziel/typen/m7.htm for pictures of Priest SP guns on German ranges. Hanno |
