Have managed to pick a few extra bits and pieces and would like to gather some info on them.

Hi Dave
I would say that the Belt is the type used with Infantry Manpack type radios such as the 18 set or 22 set. The pins connect to sockets on the back of the radio case and the whole thing acts as a waste belt. Along with the carrying straps which clip onto the standard 37 pattern webbing, it is supposed to distribute the Radio's weight more evenly and make it a more comfortable carry ! (Which it isn't )

The black tin is an empty liner for 303 type rounds, filled with rounds either in Cartons, Belts or Bandoliers, Often seen being carried with the webbing strap by Vickers MMG groups. The Liner itself was originally encased in a wooden box - 2 boxes in each steel ammo box (H50) I am sure it could be for other rounds aswell such as BESA but most commonly I'd say 303.

Hope that helps
Rob

An oddity though... normally these fittings are found on a 1908 Pattern, WW1 style waist belt, rather than the 1937 pattern WW2 style waist belt.

The pins normally remain attached to the radio set case.

Also found on the No5 PSU - back pack battery hand crank charger in similar case to the WS18.

Yes that is true Tim.
Wonder if this is a specific Aussie version perhaps?
Nice finds though

Suspect that the original P08 belt failed and the parts were transferred to the P37 belt... a case of local "make do".

But with the ZAA4855 D^D nomenclature superimposed on a Canadian made C^ belt, it would seem to be more official than "make do"?

And originally sealed with a soldered lid with a ring pull that is pulled back like a sardine can. The sealing is very effective at eliminating moisture and it is still possible to find these sealed tins with WW2 and 1950's dated ammo that is in perfect condition inside.

Yes part of the man pack kit for the 122 set ( Aust.) would be late WW2 1945 .

The set has two mounts for the belt pins to slide in, often the belt mounts were removed or bodged because they get in the way of stuff if the set was a ground or vehicle station . I think I only ever had one unmolested set with the original belt fittings in situ.

Thanks Mike, yes, you are correct it is for the man pack part of the deal. Upon checking the belt fits perfectly to the 22 set and the water proof 22 set carry box. After seeing the ebay price I will have to crank up my price.

The zip-around canvas cover looks similar to the one for the SR B70 (or HP311) radio relay set, but it's impossible to tell from the lack of measurements. (Quite apart from the fact I don't have one of those sets to be able to measure it.)

More likely to be off some Australian kit, though.

Chris.

Default Look what i just got given.

A WW2 civilan gas mask NOS (Perfect Condition) still in its original box. Any idea of how rare this?

The story goes that it was the fellows mothers issued to her during the War.

Cheers,

Dave.
