This would most likely be the vehicles CFR number, and the last 5 digits are what the license plate would read - '42777'. This same number should be stamped onto the left front frame rail behind the bumper. I've looked for the info on the database using the "554277 and possibli an other 7", but there is no information to be had due to that CFR being re-used (on a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado) since your truck left the service. Anyhow - nice trucks you've got there. Unfortunately the information was gone for my 1952 as well...Cheers,

Craig

T. Alcorn -

Well I could not locate your serial number and it's actual CFR. Going through the serial numbers and comparing the UIC (Unit Identifier Code) with the CFR range relationship, I came across records for approx. 10-20 trailers overall with wrong serial numbers recorded in the records. Instead of them putting the serial number in the appropriate box, someone had put the trailers ECC (Equipment Classification Code) in that box instead or some records had a partial contract number in that box. These 10-20 all were sold at CFB Valcartier. Seeing that the pics show your tac sign and c/s 39, your trailer belonged to the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Regiment(2R22 - the "VanDoos") who are part of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (CMBG) out of Quebec. Your trailer was from the 3rd Company in the Battalion and followed closely behind the OC's Iltis. I'm confident in saying that your trailer is lost due to piss poor paperwork, but it is definately one of these 10-20 that were sold out of CFB Valcartier. Cheers,

Craig

Hello Craig.

Thanks again this information it really helps pin down the history of the units.

I do have a question though.

On Iltis CFR 87423 I noticed that the very last work order detail completed May 10 2003 appeared to be an inspection, the holding unit was 6297 (not sure what that unit that is) TF Kabul MB HQ SIG SQN

Does this mean the last listed work order was done in Afghanistan ?

Or is my interpretation wrong?

If it was deployed to Afghanistan it has to one of the very very few Itlises that ever made it back to Canada after serving there.

If this is the case it presents a bit of an dilemma for my future plans.

Matthew

What I've done is taken actual Iltis CFR's from vehicles in theater during this time frame. I looked at the maintenance and service records for them and compared the different UIC's before the vehicles went to UIC 6297 (TF Kabul MB HQ SIG SQN) and after to UIC 6300 (Candian ISAF NSE maintenance). I would say perhaps that vehicles were chosen to go into theater, inspected and repaired as required here in Canada then sent over where they would be serviced by NSE maint. All the in theater CFR's had the AC listed as 'MZ' for disposal as scrap or salvage. Also the Iltis's sent to UIC 6297 were worked on by 2 SVC Bn in Petawawa. The few that went from there were shown to be maintained by Canadian ISAF NSE Maintenance from that point until being disposed of in theater. It is my guess your CFR#87423 was being readied for deployment in Petawawa, but for some reason ended up at the Land Force Western Area Training Center instead. As you can see there were no records of maintenance by Candian ISAF NSE pers after 2 Svc Bn's inspection. Cheers,

Craig

Thanks Craig, I really appreciate this. If it makes it easier I believe the UIC is 1755 of the unit that owned it.

Thanks

WayneR -

Here is what info remains in the database. I would presume that due to it's code "MF" (being under Controlled Cannibalization), this is the reason for such little info being retrievable. Also you will see that it fell into the 1970 category for M-38A1CDN3's vice 1971. It didn't seem to make a difference in regards to the serial number/CFR relationship. They were scattered in no particular order from lower 9#### ser. no's onto the higher 1##### ser. no's, while the CFR's went in order throughout - even between the 1970 to 1971 model years. Mismatched all the way. A large amount of 1971 model year Jeeps listed - showed there first issue was in support of a UN mission. I could not find a reference to any UIC of 1755. If there was such a unit using this as it's UIC, it no longer exists, or has been changed. Cheers,

Craig

Default Iltis information

I was wondering if I could also get some information about my Iltis?
The VIN is BI01-02-85-86489
There is also AA5237 stenciled inside the rear passenger door but I suspect the doors may not be original to this vehicle.
Any information you may have is greatly appreciated.

Default Request for Info

After reading all the requests for CFR numbers I feel a little intrusive. However It seems I have received more information and help from this forum in the last couple of months than my searching in over a year. I live in Connecticut, United States and bought a M38A1 which I believe is a CDN2.
It was purchased by the previous owner from Canada a couple of years ago. I am a member of the Connecticut Military Vehicle Collectors Inc of which I am proud to have been a past president. The chance to restore a Canadian jeep is exciting to me. All too many times I've seen the pratice of a restored USA jeep mounted with machine guns and Military Police markers. It would have you think every jeep was a gun jeep. So the chance to make an histortic Canadian jeep is exciting. I have been told the CFR numbers on it are wrong. The color is wrong and other marking are wrongand placement is wrong.
The number on it is 67-97211. I was told the number should be 67-07740
So I'll ask for as much info on this jeep as I can, so as I can make it back to the way it was equiped with the units it was in. Hopefully late 60s.

So here are the facts.
Data plate indicates the jeep was made NOV 67, Ser # is 7105-97211.
Vehicle has a SMG holder on the dash. Also has butt plate holder on the floor on the passenger side. Right side of vehicle has welded holes in the pattern and placement of a machine gun mount. Two more holes just forward of slave cable recepticle.e
That's it.
I wish to thank the people who have helped me in the past and and in the future.

Bob

I've got your info. Won't have time today to edit, but I should have it posted by Wednesday. Your Iltis spent some time touring Yugoslavia around 1995 according to some of the info.

BOBM35A2 -

I have copied the info for CFR# 67-07740 - but to confirm it's the correct info, the Jeep should have a VIN of 7105-97211. If you can check if that matches, then I will post up your info around Wednesday as well. Cheers,

Craig

Hello Craig

Do not want ot overload you but I just picked up anouther Iltis and M101 CDn2 Trailer.

Both have white paint under thier curent coats of paint.

The Vin for the Iltis is BI01-02-85-86536 for a CFR of 86536

The Serial for the trailer is 0289

Both units were disposed at Michener Allen in Edmonton AB. Hopefully that will narrow the search for the trailer

Thanks Matthew
