Great photo, love it, but would look even better with a Jeep or two in the photo. Cheers Tony

G'day Paul,
Getting three blitzes together in that setting and looking as good as they do has obviously taken a tremendous amount of work. Well done. Cheers Ken

Photo info
For those who don't recognise the vehicles. L to R.
"Aramis" was the Ford F30 of David Lloyd Owen when he commanded the Yeomanry patrol of the Long Range Desert Group. He went on to be the C.O. and retired as a general. I bought the basic truck for £300 about 1986 and it took 6 years to get it to this standard. I only had one small photo to work from in those days. I will post a photo of my secong F30 in a few weeks when it is sprayed and the final details added. Centre and right are two 1941 Ford F60's as used by the Heavy Section of the LRDG to build up supply dumps behind enemy lines. They often had no doors screens or even roofs! The one on the right is mine and it cost me £250. It was in some bad way!!! I'll try to get a photo on for the Jeep enthusiast. We are based in Eastern UK. and I think it's now 16 Fords and Chevs. Watch this space as I am no computer wizz and need my son's help to post photos! It's an age thing! Paul. |

Look carefully at the shape of the load on the F60 on the right. It's my 42 Willys! Paul. |

Love your LRDG units. I thought I might show you my two 1940 Chevs. 1 LRDG 1 not.
Here are a couple of photos of my 1940 Chev LRDG ex.New Zealand. T patrol (T3). Originally a left hand drive vehicle, it was converted to right hand drive in 1948 as the Australian road rules at that time banned left hand drive vehicles. Originally restored by the late Vic Phillips, I have just recently put it back on the road after Vic died and left it to me in his will last year. The 1940 Chev staffcar is ex. General Stanley Savige, commander of the 17th Brigade 6th Australian Division 1940/ 1941. The cammo is of the Syrian campain July 1940 against the Vichy French. I have had it since 1993 when I discovered it in a hay shed and purchased it for the great sum of two dollars. ($2.00). We have driven it all over eastern Australia in cluding Darwin and all points east of Alice Springs.

I missed that, but now you have pointed it out a familiar shape has emerged. I am really into the LRDG and would love to get together with similar minded enthusiasts. Here I am I far as I know the only one in our association with a 1942 Willys Jeep restored in desert colour. Keep up the great work the restorations are a credit to their owners. Cheers Tony
