Default hood cab 12

Hello
Today I weld new hinges on my hood frame , And I was surprised to see how strange the Hood was opening , I thing it's impossible to open it without making skratches on the painting I need to slide it a bit on the hinge bar before opening it.
Is that normal?

Cheers
Sylvain

Yes that is normal Sylvain.

For 12 cab hoods there is no real location mechanism at the rear other than the two tubes welded on the hood and the two bent hinge bars which are a fairly loose sliding fit in the tubes.
I found with mine it would close and then sit proud on the locating studs at the front of the radiator shell it then required a bit of wiggling around to locate the studs and then push the whole hood back a little to get them to locate.

The point to bear in mind about any 11 and 12 cab design features is they were at best a compromise and at worst a bit of a bodge.
For me it's what makes the early CMP's so interesting from an engineering view point it was a very much a case of design modification while under continuing production.

Pete
