Default Old Armour in service

Hi everyone

Sometime ago I obtained an old photo album full of tracked armour and thought I would share some of the photos with you.

Hope you enjoy.

The last two are in Australia. The 6X6 armoured car is an Australian Marmon-Herrington Armoured Command Vehicle, one of two pilot vehicles built.

Default Kookaburra and Cossack

Hi Matt,

Great photos thanks for posting.
Any idea which regiments Kookaburra and Cossack belong to?
I have T72908 in my WD database but nothing in the unit field. Any additional info would be a help.

Cheers
Kevin

Kevin,

Kookaburra served with 1st Light Tank Company, Australian Tank Corps in the Sydney area. It is a MkVIa Light Tank. British WD no. T1798, UK Reg. no. CMM982 and Australian Army no. T278

Great photos indeed Matt.
Any dates ?
Some of the latter look post war, late 40's? Thinking of the ones that appear to be at a demo day, and is that an early Centurion?

Default Kookaburra

On the back of the photo it details:

"A Sqn 2/7 Div Cav Regt training at Redbank Qld 1940"

Nothing is recorded on the back of "Cossack"

Kind regards
Matt

Re. Kookaburra, thanks Matt,

Your photo actually shows "1 ATC" above the serial number, on the side of the hull. The batch of ten of these light tanks were originally delivered to 1st and 2nd Light Tank Companies in NSW and Victoria respectively, having five each. My interest in these was the involvment in the restoration of another of this batch, "Platypus" and I have been able to find quite a bit of information on them. I would be interested to see photos of any more of these, if you find them.

Matt,

That first photo......in the background, to the left of the M113, looks remarkably like a British jerrican filling machine on a Sentinel trailer. I remember some of these being base overhauled at REME workshops, where I worked at the time. They were nicknamed "the Magic Roundabout". A rare piece of equipment and I was not aware that other armies had them as well.

What an amazing find/purchase. It's like an illustrated history of Australian armour.
Thank you for sharing Matt.

Was there anything on the back of the Japanese type 95 Ha-go picture?
