Reception Set (Canadian) R.103 Mk.I

I was just floating through eBay a few minutes ago and spotted one of these for sale in England. The serial number is C777 and the makers initials are D.E.I.L.

it looks to be quite complete, a three band receiver, overall grey colour.

Anyone know if these were produced throughout the war? I know there is also an R.107 Receiver, so am curious if the 103 ran parallel in production or earlier.

Also wondering if the makers initials might be for Dominion Electrohome. I have run across that abbreviation before on other electronics, but cannot place when or on what.

R107 was a pretty big monster that ran stand alone or more commonly the receiver portion of a No.12 set. I don't think they were ever Canadian made. The little R103 is a 'staff car' radio made in Canada. I have the manual for it around here somewhere.

Aside, that's the second R103 I've seen so they aren't very common.

I can't assist with your query David,
There was a British made R103 (never sighted one) that is more likely to have some connection to the R107, but I've no idea.

Thanks for the heads-up on the ebay sale...always interesting to see gear you have coming up for sale.

Mine has been converted (not guilty) to 240v and operates nicely.
I like the Canadian Broad Arrow being still visible....I know Chris likes my 'mad brass polishing' antics

I have one of these as well and the proper aerial. My s/n is 1775 so may give an idea of the number made.

Good guess David, D.E.I.L. is Dominion Electrohome Industries Ltd.

Just saw 3 or 4 of those unit spares boxes with their goodies at my favorite surplus store yesterday. If anybody "needs" one let me know and I can see what the price is on them.
