Default Patience is a virtue......

Hi Richard

show us some pictures of your truck....some of us are illiterate.....
Water pump ....as long ass it is fro a 216 block one or two holes are not critical they do surface occasionally ....local part shops may be of some help..... the older the store and the smaller the community they service the better.

Radiator.... in good shape.... are very hard to find...... if your current radiator can be fixed go for it....remember to tell the rad shop you deal with a 216 that the engine runs at 1 or 3 pounds of pressure if any....... best bet is if your bottom and top rad tanks are still good have the rad shop fit you with a HD 3 layers new core.....
Radiator housing to the engine head is best found in your friendly junk yard...... do a deal with the owner...... you find it and you remove it....bring your own tools........ 1939 to 1959 should be all the same.... the older the better....once you have the neck piece you can measure the indentation diam. where the thermo. fits and obtain from most local autoparts shop....look for a 165 degree F to 180 degree temp......... a good place are old school bus wrecks with rusted Chev 6 cyl..... not GMC......

Good luck

Bob,
I'm almost certain you need to be thinking of Hampshire, UK - not New Hampshire, USA. Widen your horizons. Look far over the horizon.

I don't think it would be a simple "Let's drop by for a tea/coffee." That would make quite a drive... if you survive the water hazard.

Richard
You are right that the 1 hole water pumps aren't the easiest things to find. A very cursory check of some of the restoration parts suppliers in the US didn't turn up anyone selling rebuilt or replacement units. Depending on whether you have a pump housing and its condition, a rebuild kit like this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/28537853067...3ABFBMsOn6pJpj might help you.

You could use a GMC CCKW water pump housing with a Chev pulley and bearing shaft .

Default Pump

I have had a few mishaps with these pumps.

Just a few thoughts:

If you have the original pump rebuild it. .. learn new skills. Buying another old used pump is wasting your money. The Carter pump would be OK quality and a quick fix.

The older NOS rebuild kits have good quality bearings... The modern new kits often have crap Asian bearings that will not last .

If you rebuild. Have the W/pump housing machined to take a modern 5/8 mechanical seal. Far better it will last 30 years and will not corrode. I did this mod.

In my experience the original carbon seals are unreliable.. if you park the truck for a long time the machined seal face corrodes and it will leak.

Radiator . I used a cheap Aluminium Hot Rod rad. Many of these in different styles are available on ePay. Make up or modify the mounts and it is done. As Bob C wrote : finding a good original radiator is near to impossible these days. Recore it will cost you a King's Ransome.

Nothing against Jimmy Carter's business but I doubt that any of the pumps I see on his web site are an exact fit for the CMP which has the one hole style backing plate.
I believe this text is from the listing mentioned above: "When installing a 1955-1962, 235 or 261 six cylinder engine in the shorter 1937-1955 Chevrolet truck.". In other words it is for modifying the later "pump-in-block" style engines to fit earlier vehicles (and also doesn't address the vertical position of the fan with respect to the radiator).

Richard,
If you find an old pump and go down the rebuild route I can highly recommend Holman Engineering in Addlestone Surrey. precision@holman-engineering.co.uk or 01932 353555. They are an old school father and son concern who specialise in rebuilding water pumps, steering boxes and other parts for vintage vehicles. I had the pumps for my Carrier rebuilt several times by other less reputable firms who used modern seals none of which lasted, I then bought a new rebuild kit of the original type using the carbon disc seal, the Holmans machined the pump body and fitted the new parts correctly and I have never had a leak since. Several of my friends have now had their pumps done by them with similar satisfaction.
