Yes.

I am not sure anyone could say anything bad enough about these. They have been a drain on the DNDs resources for over 20 years now.

Default Just a few of the reasons why the LSVW is unmourned

The command post vans are practical, but the vehicle itself is a piece of $hit. A turbo diesel with an automatic transmission. There is no Park on the trans, and if the engine revs too high, the shifter won't go into gear. The handbrake is off when the handle is up. The spare tire mount (or it used to be) on a great big spring that would slam up (or down?) and actually killed a man. Oh, and the tube inside the fuel tank is dangling in mid-air, so half a tank is actually an empty tank.

After Terry's high praise, if you still can't live without an LSVW, there's one listed for sale out of CADC Ottawa https://www.gcsurplus.ca/mn-eng.cfm?...1&sf=ferm-clos minimum bid $3000.

That one even has the air conditioner on the roof. Mind you, good luck with that. I had one on the shop truck in KAF, and it was just a tease.

Terry: The lack of a park pawl is common in larger trucks. Not that this one meets that criteria. And you should not be shifting a truck into gear unless it is at idle or you risk damage to your transmission. The handbrakes positions may be to remind you that it is not engaged as you are leaving the truck. It will gently tap the "jewels" on the way out.

The spare tire carrier was indeed dangerous. The spring was designed to balance out the weight of the tire. But if you pulled the lever to raise the mount and you did not have the spare on there, then the hook would come up with decent force. A guy lost an eye during the floods here in Manitoba to one of those despite the little yellow warning decal not to close it without a tire. That problem was rectified by the installation of a damper to the system so the arm came up under control.

Trust me, the pick up tube in the tank went low enough to pick up the water that would collect in the tank thru the use of jerry cans, and then freeze up solidly at -10. There was a problem where they ran too many lines and wires thru a hole in the frame, pinching off the fuel.
