Default I finally admit...

It's now 5.30AM Sat October 1st, 2005, and the time I emerged.

How inconsiderate I was, keeping my mum awake all night.

I noted with some interest the day before I was born was the day James Dean chose to make his untimely exit from the world in a Porsche Spyder named "Little Bastard". I bet that hadn't even made the news by then!

Default Thanks, Cliff

6:12 here and a reasonably nice day - mostly sunny top of 19.

A relaxed day planned - breakfast at a cafe planned with Belinda, than a family BBQ tonight.

Default Happy Birthday, Keefy

Hi Keith,

Have a very Happy Birthday.

Congratulations, you are now a full member of the 50's Club. don't be surprised if you start going grey, joints begin to creak and an intolerence of pop music, they are all signs that you have made it! Speaking from experience, my membership started four years ago.

Take it easy today , mate

Best Wishes,
Richard

Thanks, Richard

As for the symptoms, I wish they'd waited until my 50th! The bad tooth fairy has been regularly visiting, stealing my hair and exchanging it for weight.

As for the intolerance of pop music - I'm afraid that's been instinctive most of my life. I hate having crappy nonsense crammed into my ears by an industry bent on making money out of me. I prefer to choose what I listen to (like CMPs, radials and Merlins).

And a big thanks to you too, Bob! I think I might just slip out to do a bit of work on the FGT before the family awaken. A good way to start the next 50 years, eh?

Default Oh dear

I was wondering whether that would reappear!

It gave my family a laugh though. Perhaps I was thinking how well she'd go as lamb sandwiches!

In a small change of plans my eldest daughter is making breakfast - fresh orange and lime juice with fruit from our trees and we're poaching some eggs from our chooks - the bread is bought, but we're partially self-sufficient.

Also about to try a new coffee blend from Big Al's in the Preston Market - he calls it "Dusky Katrina" - a name he feels is memorable.

Well, Happy Birthday Keefy, and welcome to the Ol' Fart's Club, where you gradually realize that you just don't bend the way you used to!

On Sunray's 50th, I gave him a live .50 cal AP round. Has anyone blessed you with the same?

Keith, congratulations with your 50th birthday. Here's to the next 50! Have a great day celebrating with your family. It seems they do their best to not let it pass unnoticed - great drawing! (No comment on your table companion...)

Hanno

BTW, prize yourself lucky the death of James Dean hadn't made the news by then; the name your mother must have been calling you during the night could have stuck - "L.B.K. Webb"

Happy Birthday, Keith! May all your presents be wrapped in Cosmoline!

Note to the confused elderly gent: owing to the International Date Line, your birth at 5.30am 1 Oct 50 (1230hrs, 30 Sep 50 Californian time) occured BEFORE the time of James Dean's death (1430hrs)! So, no, I don't think it was in the news yet. Despite the fact that you cannot be James Dean reincarnated, there is no reason not to Revel Without a Pause on your birthday.

Default Thanks, everyone!

Yes, we will revel without pause indeed!

I've just poured the first single malt and the family will be arriving shortly.

As for the cosmoline, yes, that's close - Euan found a real gem of a gift in Alice Springs - a genuine CMP jack handle which I'll photograph soon.

The other very enjoyable pasttime today was to remove the exhaust system (or what was left of it) from the FGT, I've replaced the manifolds due to sheared studs and was just about to bolt the replacement pipes on when there was a cry from the laundry to the effect water was running down the walls.

It was an extremely bad plumbers short cut which caused it - needless to say the exhaust system is still in the "almost on" stage and I'll miss having my 50th birthday ride - oh well, tomorrow will have to do. At least the laundry plumbing honeydo has been completed.

Default I'm over it

Everyone gone by 9.30, so that suits me!

(I'll be up early bolting that exhaust system on). At least I can then drive on Oct 1st in Canada! Thanks again to all who have expressed their birthday wishes - I even had a call from Brian Gough - terrific.

My sister gave me a very thoughtful gift - the Tamiya cab 12 FGT model. Been quite a few years since I've built a scale model - usually go in for the 1:1 version I can drive.

Hi Keith

Just read that you've passed your fifties. No worries, as we Aussies say ;-) Still some years to go. But perhabs you'll have to go to a repairshop as your old CGT... hopefully not too soon.

All the best wishes from Auckland. Think I'm the most Southern birthday wisher so far.

Greetings
Chris

How are you today Keefy, now that you are closer to 100 years?

How dose it feel to be 50 and one day?

Did you know that you are now over half way to being 100 years?

Dose that make you feel old, expechaly when you are more than twice my age?

That's enougth out of you, young lady!

You need to respect your elders.

At least I got to 50, isn't that enough?

And thanks, Chris - hope you're enjoying New Zealand, or Na Zillun as it's pronounced over there.
