As I have an interest in early carriers, I'd be interested to learn more about your 1940 carrier.
Do you have a British built Universal?

Hi Lynn, Check out the 'Carrier Platoon' thread for the 1940 carrier, I dont have a British Carrier, first one I have seen in the flesh was Ben's Scout carrier.

Good picture of a Brit MkI. I have not seen the kit locker mounted on top of the engine cover before.
I thought by that stage of the war, they would have done away with those white "suicide squares".
Keep posting them for us Kevin.

In Kevin's post #35 the last picture shows RMY 681, with a large "4" on the right front guard. What does that mean? (please)

That is also an interesting photo Kevin posted in #36. I have seen quite a few wartime carrier photos of them in any position other than upright, and as I recall, most of those showed broken/damaged track suggesting a mine or shell impact did it in. In Kevin's photo, both tracks appear to be firmly in place and the general shape of the carrier plates looks true, A lot of dust on the front of it and the broken headlamps suggest perhaps a close blast simply knocked it over.

THat's why I asked Michael R. There's a good chance they were of the same unit at that stage.

Michael R, as your second photo is an Armoured O.P. I thought I'd post a couple more. These are Carrier, AOP. MkII, the same as Nigel Ward's rare survivor.
The first 2 images (same carrier as the 1 from your earlier post?) shows T17153? with field mod to take the gun (what is it MG08?)
The last one is a Kiwi AOP MkII.Anyone care to guess the T number? (maybe clever enough to enhance?)
Without Nigels Watson's book, I would guess all the AOP MkIIs are all in the same range my (wild) guess is T17358 or T17368??

681 is very close. I think that's the Kings royal rifle corps and the reaserch into how carriers were issued is on going. With any luck I can confirm which unit it was issued to. The Aussie AOP 2 is a great shot showing the variety of the caunter scheme.

Gents,

Roughed out the Caunter lines from studying original pictures, I will upload some more Caunter original ones when I get time, these colours are correct as matched with samples, Mike's book on Caunter pattern for the Dragon carrier does not match any Caunter carrier pic I have seen. This is what I have come up with after looking at over 50 Caunter carrier pics.

Comments and any more Caunter pics would be helpful.

I like it. Some of the carrier shots seem to show the (factory) green colour stays around the front side where the T number is painted, I guess it saves reapplying the number?? Yours seems the same. Nice to see something different.

Default Caunter

Rich, the paint was matched and mixed from the swatch's from mikes book, eggshell finish, Withams paints. The mystery area is around the drivers front wing, not clear on any pictures, I will paint the drivers headlight in the base colour (Portland Stone), If anyone has a downward shot of a Caunter carrier front it would be helpful, before applying the finished coat. The other two colours are Silver Grey and Slate.

Kevin.
