Default An outback C60X

Euan McDonald took this and many other pictures which are now online in the yard outside the Trucking Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.

More pictures here.

Default Amazing!

Compare these two known trucks:
GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA
MADE IN GM CANADA
OSHAWA WALKERVILLE REGINA
MODEL 84-43X2;
SERIAL.1844323527
ENGINE 3731861 BODY SERIAL
TRIM XR PAINT F.C. 102

The 'X2' indicates that they were supplied to the UK full built-up. These would have in theory have been landed in Liverpool say and been railed down to GM's contractor, Lep Transport Limited in Chiswick, west London. However I suspect that the Aussie truck was shipped direct to the Mid-East ostensibly for the British forces after assembly in GM Near East, Alexandria, and then allocated/sold to the AIF. I conject both were supplied under Demand S/M 2019 which included F60L chassis, both parts of the contract being supplies for the Mid-East. e.g. L 1304787 and L 1305132 issued to NZEF and AIF in Mid-East respectively and L 4624486 issued to the AIF.

The other, C60S is also interesting. Compare these all to WO 78 although there may be others in my database that do not have the contract noted:

2844200565S ENGINE # PR3,886,562 W.O. 78 [SYDNEY-ASSEMBLED]
2844200591M MAY 26 1943 [MELBOURNE-ASSEMBLED] WO78
2844200690M ENGINE # PR3,874,470 8 SEPTEMBER 1943 [MELBOURNE-ASSEMBLED] WO78
2844200694 ENGINE # PR3,874,466 10 9 43 10 SEPTEMBER 1943 W.O.78

Note no Plant Code reference..it could have been Melbourne-assembled although that Plant varied the placing of their 'M' bewteen after the Model Number and after the serial number. In later years I think it was Brisbane that did not use 'B' although a very few Brisbane- and Perth [ 'P'] - assembled chassis are known. So far there are no known 'A' for Adelaide Plant chassis!
