Default Cab 12 F60L Dash and Instrument Panel

Hi all - with all the recent discussions about these vehicles, I decided to spec. build the above. The instrument panel is my standard one utilising NOS gauges and a rebuilt working speedometer. I bare metalled the housing after removing the plates and after restoration re-rivetted the plates. This was a labour of love and built to original specifications that included a battery volt meter and not an ammeter. The only incorrect aspect of this will be the data on the data plate but it is still labelled F60L. Unfortunately I haven't fitted any switches as I'm still trying to source some that look like the old ones and the impossible to obtain Ford script isn't there either. Now I've built it I want it to go to a good home and where better to start than in MLU. So if you have $375 plus postage, it's yours. PM me, first in, best dressed.

Salesman Bob

I could probably adapt it with the angle grinder.

Very nice work, Bob!

Default Adaptation

Hi guys - thanks for your comments. I should have mentioned that even though this has the F60L data plate on it, it could be utilised for any Cab 12 other than the F15, just by the removal of the F60L data plate.

Default Cab 11 Chevrolet

Hello Bob - I don't know of many Cab 11 Chevrolets out here, possibly Uncle Max has one/some. As for the instrument panel I have no idea what it looks like. In fact I have no real knowledge of Cab 11s. Post an image and I'll see what I can do.

In the mean time I'm surprised nobody wants this Cab 12 setup. Maybe I'll have to try Ebay.

Bob

Bob it would look great in my Cab 12 F60L but i wont be starting on that for at least another 12 months unless you want to hang on to it for another few months till i can rustle up some more cash to pay for it .

Default Rain Check

Hi James - I can do that. I would like to see it stay locally and go to a worthy recipient. You are not that far away from me so I can even visit to eventually see it in your truck. In the meantime I possibly have just enough to build another one, but that will be down the track unless someone puts in a specific order. Your other gear will be in the mail first thing Monday so you should see it probably by Thursday. I'll be watching my mail box as well.

This is what a C15 dash setup looks like before Bob gets ahold of it. Chev kept things simple.

Bob,
Why/how does an F15 cluster differ from any other cab12? (I do not have my instrument cluster.)

Bob Carriere I see your cab 11 has the hooks to hold the doors open. These didn't come out till the cab 12s but a lot of the cab 11s had them retrofitted. It would be a simple installation to get a little bit of cool air into the cab. I have 4 cab 11 cabs and 2 of them have the hooks.

The only other difference between a cab 12 F60L and cab 12 F15 dash (apart from the individual vehicle serial plate) is the gearshift plate which is shorter than the standard one because there are no transfer case instructions - otherwise it's identical.

H - are you sure you didn't accidentally sell it in the SFOS auction?

I reckon you'd better just tuck it aside now for Howard, Bob... And Tony will give you one as an exchange for his.

Default Cab 12 F60l Instruments

Hi Howard - Plushy has this on a rain check so it's up to him whether I hold it for him or move it on. Over to you James.

Re. the F15 & F60l, as Keefy says it's down to the plates, the f15 being only a two wheel drive doesn't require the transfer case data plate.

Boobee - the instrument cluster looks to be the standard Chevrolet one in which case I have all the instrument and speedometer decals plus the scripted glass. With the speedometer face I would need to know whether it is a Dim Light or Bright Light face. The earlier ones, and I suspect Cab 12, would have been Dim Light, i.e. the headlight indicator light would have highlighted on low beam as opposed to the later standard of indicating high beam was on.

No worries Bob, I'm not trying to cut in on Plushy, I won't need a dash for a few months yet. If plushy wants this one, I'll take the next one, no probs.
See you at Corowa!

Default Lost of traffic for such a small part....

David....... thanks for the info on the screen door hooks. It makes sense to retro fit them to a cab 11...... if the cab 13 are hot I can imagine a cab 11 without the opening windscreen.....must be hell at low speed on a hot Summer day..... wearing a wool uniform to boot!!!

Dr. Bob..... will contact you by PM to exchange information and pictures on what I have and need. After seeing what Mike did on his with your help I might be tempted to try a home made job and save on shipping both ways the whole unit.

They do become the focal point of well done cab......like a ring on a bride!!!

Hi Bob - yes that is the trouble. Once people obtain one of my panels they invariably have to re-restore their vehicle to come up to the panel's standard.

Re. your panel, you could certainly re-face the instruments and speedometer if they are still working. The odometer is another matter, that has to be stripped down to its individual reels if you were to replace the digits. As for the frame and bezel you would need to obtain the correct colours. Probably to that end it would be easier for me to provide you with a restored frame and bezel with a new scripted glass already fitted.
