Default Instrument glass: Ford cluster

Any suggestions for a source of a couple of instrument panel glass for the Ford CMP early civilian style instrument cluster? They are plain glass which I imagine could be cut at a glass shop.(unlike the embossed Chevy style - which I have extras of if anyone wants to trade). ......... Brian

I think you answered your own question. Any glass shop would cut those for less than the price of postage for mailing them from elsewhere. As well, cutting glass of that single thin type is quite easy......if you have some glass from, say a picture frame, and a couple dollar glass cutter you should be done in a few minutes. Remember, scribe only once.

Default Glass

Rob, Thanks for your usual quiCk response. The glass seem to be available from antique Ford dealers - by part number it fits 1940-47 Ford pickup trucks: $8-$10 each but in this world of mail order, freight is usually more than the cost of the item.
The glass seemed to be thinner than standard window glass so I thought I'd check out the possibilities for original glass. Now I'll find a glass cutter.

A neighbour of mine used to hold that thin glass under water in a sink and cut it with a pair of scissors. He cut me a 2 inch circle for a temp gauge.

Default Another source for thin glass

Hi

If you are looking for a source for thin glass look around and see if anybody in the area restores antique clocks. My roommate from college graduated top of his class worked two years for a bank and then went back to his first love restoring antique clocks 40+ years later he is still at it. But I can remember visiting his shop and he would routinely replace broken case glass.

Cheers
