f15a speedo cable
Hope someone can give me a little advice. I need to order a speedo cable for my 1943 f15a cab 11 . I do not have the old one to measure, so am wondering what length I should order? Any advice would be appreciated!

F-15A Cab 11 speedo cable
Hi Dave,
I checked the parts list and I noticed part numbers for the speedo cable for the early/late cabs are different. I was going to measure my cab 13 speedo cable for you, which is an original, but obviously it is a different length. Looks like you will have to find only a cab 11 speedo cable length. Sorry I could not help. Cheers,

Phil Waterman has information on the Chevrolet speedometer cable on his website.
If there is a relationship between the Chevrolet and Ford Cab 13 cables, would it be reasonable that the same relationship hold for the Cab 11 or 12. I.E. if the Chev cab 13 were to be 2" longer than the Ford cable due to gearbox and chassis differences, would it make sense for the Cab 11 to also be 2" longer as the placement of the speedometer in the respective cabs is similar? |

Brian Ashbury has some Ford cable measurements in THIS THREAD.
Phil mentions in THIS THREAD that the Chev Cab 12 is 87.5in outer with the inner cable being 1in longer, while the Cab 13 is 95/96in. I would be triple checking the length required before ordering, as once it's made it's too late to ask for an extra inch. Use a household electrical extension cable and run it along the route you plan to run the speedo cable, ensuring sufficient slack to avoid chafing or interference, and to allow for large radius turns that the speedo cable will need (you can bend electrical cable into much tighter turns). Even when you're done with that, add another inch!

Is it a 1943 or a cab 11? It can't be both!

Cletrac,I did not know that. From the numbers on the door I think it was put into service in 1943, but I realize that does not equate to the vehicle build year. Definitely a cab 11. What was the last year they were made?
I may leave the speedo cable till later when I can do a proper measurement. Thanks for all the replies,Dave |
