Default MAYBACH engine and racing cars

This article mentions a German 1940 Scout car being shipped to Australia from the Middle East for evaluation.

The vehicle the author writes about was actually a DEMAG Sd.Kfz. 10 , the Maybach engine mentioned in the article was salvaged from it. Some years ago, the DEMAG was discovered on a farm in North Western Victoria , minus the engine. A farmer had cut the hull in half and he had fitted a A model Ford engine. The forward hull section had some damage from a mine blast with many shrapnel holes evident. The DEMAG is now back in Europe ..long story involved.
