Default FWD in the movies.

Somewhat off-topic, for MLU, but of interest to vehicle buffs: a Winnipeg newspaper had a story a few days back the the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo is hiring out its First World War FWD ammunition truck for a TV movie about the story of Winnie-the-Pooh. I believe the truck was from the Gregg collection - I've seen it at Shilo. Should be interesting to see it run, though, it might only get a few frames in the finished production, as these things tend to go - like the back end of that HUP that shows up in A Bridge Too Far - blink and you missed it.

Default That HUP in ABTF

If I recall correctly - and I hope I haven't stuck my neck out 'too far' - there is a scene of civilians evacuating on a road - near the beginning I think - the HUP actually seems to be playing a civilian van - you can just see the back end of it in the middle distance amid a whole bunch of people, as I recall in my mind's eye. It's a very brief shot. Someone please set me straight if I have my cranium in my fundament on this one. I hope I don't have myself confusing Dunkirk scenes in Battle of Britain with Bridge Too Far - I stay up waaay too late watching these movies some nights.

Furthermore, I'm going to the store now, video joint is next door, I may just have to see if they have the movie, rent it, and check if for myself - I hate to be wrong about this stuff.

OK - Rented A Bridge Too Far and the scene was where I remembered it, near the beginning, but the 'evacuation' is not civilians but the Germany army in retreat. Just after the prologue and the first scene with the Dutch resistance family, there is a montage of the Germans in retreat. The shot is of the rabble Germans moving along a road beside a canal, away from the camera, a soldier on a horse forces his way through the men - in the middle distance, there is the HUP bumping along - playing a German or commandeered vehicle - with troops riding on top. You only see the back end of it, but that's it. I am watching the rest of the movie later on, and if the HUP appears in any other shots, I will let you know, but from my previous viewings of film, that retreat shot is the only one I can think of. I guess the director or tech advisors couldn't think of a way of working a Canadian vehicle into the pic, but you think they could have had it stand in for an Allied vehicle in some of the shots. Oh well.
