Original cargo chest of a C-15a waterbrowser

Hey guys,

I found a storage chest of water browser in a barn in the Netherlands.
The man where I found them said that he had received them from a farmer where such a water browser had probably stayed behind in the war or just after it.

Greetings Guy

Guy,

Nice find! I saw it advertised and thought it looked familiar....

Hanno

Guy Verstrepen 13-08-18 16:28

thanks Hanno.

I will soon add more pictures of the progress of the waterbowser.
in the meantime I am working with a company to produce replica water filters.

greetings Guy.

Great find. :thup2: What's that bit in your third photo? Looks like a handle that may rotate?

Owen.

Guy Verstrepen 14-08-18 16:20

yes indeed it can turn around.
I think it is to keep the doors of the stores locker open.

hey guys

An update of the works here at the water bowser.
First some pictures of the 2nd skid plate that was on the gas tank.
These are now used as anti-skid plate to descend into the lubrication wells.

And further the situation up to now.

Cheers Guy

Here is an image of how the end result should be.
The top is different than usual on the waterbowser.
maybe after the war ???

filters

Just wondering why the CMP water tanks appear to have UK made filters fitted. I'm still looking for a loan of a filter to measure up and hopefully make up a repro version as in those pics, aluminium is a good choice I think, although its not cheap .

I am fortunate to work in a large aluminum company
the filter that can be seen on the photo is made out of 3 parts.
the conical part is in a tube the top can also be placed in the tube.
The nice thing about the whole thing is that water can be pumped through it
the tube is 300 mm long and 160 mm diameter but can be shortened.
I think the diameter is slightly larger 150mm might be better but I do not have a tube of that size,
the other pieces can be found in the appendix.
if these are correct I do not know but the whole gives a nice look

David Dunlop 26-11-18 16:26

Very nice details to be able to replicate, Guy.

David

Guy Verstrepen 26-11-18 16:34

no problem if I can help someone just ask me if I have the sizes or something of ... examples I share them here with you.

drawings

Thanks for the drawings

I guess some CMP chassis were retrofitted with British bodies ( the 200 gallon water tank ? ) and various other British equipment . Thompson Brothers in the UK seemed to make the tanks for many applications both civilian and military. Link to the Bilston company.

I think you are right. Note also that the filter powder filling port (the small pipe on the side of the main body) comes out at a 45-degree angle on the postwar filter. The wartime filter has a 90-degree bend. Note I have used the terminology "wartime" and "postwar", but it is quite possible that the taller top and 45-degree filling port could have even been a "late war" improvement for ease of manufacturing?

Postwar Filters

2 Attachment(s)
Update on the postwar filters. The attached sketches are from the 1954 handbook for the 200 gallon water tank. The filters are clearly quite different (and larger) than the picture Guy posted. For an idea of size, there is a picture of a postwar filter installed on a 100 gallon water trailer here (2nd posting, 3rd picture):

http://hmvf.co.uk/topic/14759-britis...tank-trailers/

So, my working theory is that the one in Guy's picture is 'late WW2'. At least until someone can confirm otherwise. :teach:

Any thoughts on how the pump if fitted to the truck? Here's some photos of the British type, as fitted to a Bedford MWC (albeit it used the smaller Mono pump). You will note it runs off a gear-and-chain setup, not directly connected to the PTO. Was the Canadian pump directly connected to the PTO, or geared off it? :confused

Photos are not mine, btw; they were posted on the HMVF site some time ago.

Owen.
