Tyres for 6prd
Hi im restoring my antitank gun 6prd and im looking for three tyres 8.25 X 10 any one know were i can get any thanks

I know that Dave Gordon used 10 ply 7.50x10 made for a 5.5" wide rim on his mortar, discussions have been made about using on the 6 pounder.

I have a set of the mule tires here, but they are obviously too small for the 6 pdr. I have also used the forklift tires, and can't say I am happy with the look of them either. I picked up a bunch of the tires from the M1A1 bomb cart that seem much closer to the proper size. They are a 9.00-10 rib tire made by dynatrac.

Tyres for 6 Pounder
Hi Richard
These size tyres are as rare as Rocking Horse s*** - at least in good useable condition. Most end up with 7.50's being used. I do have a few 8.25's but they are not in my view good enough for towing on public roads. They might be ok if you intend only towing in an arena setting or for a static gun. I can get some photos of them but if interested probably best to view. I am just outside Swindon Wiltshire. Rob |

Thank you for your responses i am in tending to tow it first behind my Loyd Carrier and secondly behind my half ton Dodge WC21 so it would be on public road. I looked at the link that was given for the 7.50 x 10 i like the tread as well i have seen them on web site company called Big Tyre used them on an old Scammell look good what do you think

I guess a set is not the right term....a pair. I would have to look to see if they are STA or Coker.
|
Bear in mind the legal towing limits for unbraked trailers in the UK.

Here are some shots of a 6 pdr tire, the bomb cart tire, and a mule tire. You can see the size differences, although they are exaggerated a little by the angles the tires are sitting. The forklift tires fall somewhere closer to the mule tires.

The holy grail of 6 pdr wheels.

Presumably burnt because no one wanted them !

What ever did happen to that deal Kevin , as you were looking into getting some of those tires. Did the guy never want to sell them? They were in Greece,
maybe a more local guy on the Forum Knows the place and can explain the fate of them? |
I’ve re asked the guy who sent me the pics, have to wait and see but don’t hold out much luck !. I think it was Italy but not sure.

N0, I think the mule tires are the farthest from the original size. They are the non-directional US tread shown in my photos. The forklift tires that others talked about are only slightly wider but not much bigger. The mule tires are available in the USA from a number of sources. The best price for them that I have found is Summit racing who offer free shipping in the US.
The Dybatrac tires from the M1A bomb carts are closer, but not highway rated. They were made by Specialty Tires of America (I believe the mule tires are as well) and may also be available from Summit or Coker tire. All on the wrong side of the pond for the UK I'm afraid. |

https://www.vrakking-tires.com/thru-...trac-tyre.html No price or indication if they are in stock, but may be worth an email or phone call. I have no experience with that vendor, nor do I receive any commission from them....unfortunately.... Owen. |

8.25-10 was a common size on small agricultural trailers, no doubt due to post war availability of 6 pdr hub assemblies to make them out of! Tyres have been out of production for some time but they do turn up occasionally.
|
Richard, might be worth running an add in tractor weekly or agricultural monthly in the wanted section asking for wheels with tabs on, with a pic of what you need. I got a lead to a set I will pursue for you.
|
Some trailer wheels are identical, they just lack the rope tags.

Thanks every one I have the wheels and making the rope tags at moment got wheels from Kevin, I just need tyres i think i have contact with the 8.25 in Germany but as mentioned fork lift tyres! thanks for info about farm tyres i might put add in mag. If you do have contacts for tyre i would be interested.
have also found that a company called Big Tyre have 7.50 x 10 would these fit? Thanks |
7.50-10 will fit fine but are a little small on the outside diameter.
