Hello All,
this is the main reason i have a love of carriers, this is my Grandad standing beside carrier 25649,i think this was his training on them, but later on after he was injured at Kokoda he became an instructor on carriers. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...00881724PM.jpg This is another pic of the same carrier with the rest of the crew. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...00881720PM.jpg |
Great Photos
Justin- Great photos, thanks for sharing, these are the types of photos, and as important the stories behind them, that are being lost as our fathers, and grandfathers generation pass into history.
Our local MV club's newsletter runs photos and bits of history as "Dad's Photos" which we have had to expand to include "Grandma's Photos" as we have gotten some interesting family snap shots of Women work during the war. Again thanks for sharing. |
#25649
Hi Justin - all we have to do now is correlate that number to a Hull Number and then I will have another one for my database along with a hyperlinked image, if I am allowed to use these images. Do you have any more?

Hello Phil,
Always happy to share my familys pics as i uncover them. Its a sad thing as you say that lots of photos are being lost forever. I,ve heard of veterans passing away and the family cleaning up the house and just burning albums-paper work etc. So keep up the good work with your efforts. Justin. |

I would love to know the hull number of this carrier, your welcome to use the pics for your database.no problems there. I may have more pics,Mum is going through all Grandads negatives at the moment, thats how we found these, so its possible more will turn up. Justin. |
Bob/Justin -
Would I be correct in saying that the number on the second pic would be a 'C' Number ? I also note that the 'commander' in the second pic is wearing white armbands. Either 'Directing Staff' or an umpire on an exercise ? Justin, do you have any info ref units your Grandfather was in ? Roddy |
C number
Yes, it is the 'C' for Commonwealth in red.
Hull number 1824, engine number 1G6478F |

in my limited knowledge of the numbers,i would say yes it would be a C number. According to my Mums info this was Grandads initial training on carriers, That would explain the fellow with the white armband,he was probably Grandads instructor. after he went to Kokoda and was injured there he was shipped back to Australia, after he recovered enough he became an instructor with 2/3 Aust MG Battalion. Thanks for that info,do we know if that carrier is still around? Justin. |
Grandad's Carrier #1824
Hi Justin - this Carrier was a Ford manufacture under contract MON.62. I have 18 recorded under this contract as existing including your #1902. So #1902 came out of the same batch as #1824. That's pretty close to Grandad.
Keefy - good work. Bob |
Thanks for that Bob,Its quite amazing that its out of the same batch as 1902,makes it a bit more special.
Justin. |
And She's Found!!, bringing this forward for Nathan.
