Default Non-military sword ID?

I know it's slightly outside the usual but perhaps someone has run across something similar to this. I picked it up about twenty-five years ago at a small antique shop in Port Credit (Ont.) The owner couldn't tell me any of its history and until I get a digital camera (next month?) this photo will have to do.
The blade is acid-etched with a rather busy floral design and some crosses but no makers name or markings. The scabbard & frog are dyed leather and the fittings are brass. One person suggested a Papal Guard sword but I don't think it's fancy enough for that. Definitely ceremonial, perhaps one of the grades of Freemasonry? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Dave
