I would argue to the contrary. I'm still quite happy with moderators decision.

Gents,
What's that round thing just left and above the spare roadwheel on the frontal armour ? To my eyes it looks like a Ford CMP horn. Is it original equipment ? A nice evening and a polite thanks .

The earliest carriers used a British horn. Later they went to the CMP Cdn style. My manual isn't here, but it was dropped after a certain serial number. The horn is normally an indicator of an early carrier. |

Many thanks Rob, i did not know this interesting bit of information.
My Carrier is a late 1944 No 2 Mk 2 and i found no trace of it . It would be a nice add on for safety's sake and for signaling the driver's intentions . Cheers. ![]()

A Canadian hooter came my way and rightly or wrongly I fitted it anyway. But I left it a different colour.....as if it was an 'add on'. Ron

Don't miss Mike at all, banned from MLU, banned from the commonwealth tank page on FB for his aggressive and unpredictable behaviour. As for the carrier take what you see with a pinch of salt, each to their own and all that can't mock the guy for his enthusiasm but accuracy was not his strongest suit.
No doubt I will get hate mail again. I am a firm believer you are who you hang with.... Peace

When in service during the 1950's the carriers we used had no horns.
Hard to imagine how useful a horn could be. Hearing anything over the sound of a moving carrier would be difficult |

I have had to use mine at certain events. If the exhaust system is right, you won't hear the flathead running from outside the vehicle so it is just the track noise. If running on loose ground, even that is fairly quiet. An occasional short "toot" is required to warn slow movers whom you are approaching from behind.

You've never been known for short 'toots', Rob. The horn on your carrier is another matter.

Mid to late war carriers have no horn, no brake light, no reflectors or corner lamps, no turn signals and a p*ss poor rear view mirror. What were they thinking????

Mike G.... had to unfriend him and ban him on FB for too many offensive comments.
![]() Horn.... I found I needed a horn for my first Mk1 when at field reenactments. With a line of Yank infantry on either side of the narrow dirt roads, I was just too qquiet coming up behind them. Last straw was when some guy stepped out of line into the road to do something with the guy behind him. Panic braking and some sliding and he was still clueless I was so close to him. All the guys in back were thrown around and some leaky red stuff on the sharp edges of some brackets back there. I got a Lucas flat horn and mounted it and used it often afterwards. ALl the vehicles in our unit have horns for the same reason. |

It's been my experience that anybody who refers to themselves as 'big (insert name)' usually has an ego of the same size.

Sorry to inflict "the negative vibes".... It seems that with Messenger connected to Facebook is somehow a separate app on my phone. Turning him off on FB didn't disconnect him there. I have that sorted now.
Sooo... Have an unusually warm day here of 70 degrees F and a day to spend re-wiring the Mk2 carrier. Best get outside and to it then! Cheers Jim |
