Default FORD Geelong WW2 production

Hi all

Some research done by a U.S. historian friend has unearthed these figures . The figures apparently come via a chap working here at Ford Australia . These are previously unknown to me and I cannot verify if they are correct . So take it as you will.

I am interested in your collective comments on this data . Does it add up ? Sound as if it makes sense ?

Mike

Hi MIke, here you go. It needs some formatting, which I will do later.

Please read the query sent in by Michele Cook of the Ford Motor Company of Australia. Reply to this thread, I will forward the link to her.

Thanks in advance,
Hanno

We are transcribing and digitising all Ford Production records from 1925 to the current day. Have a particular problem in defining the vehicles mentioned in Mike’s email produced in 1941 and 1942, “B.P.C. Chassis” and “B.P.C. Convertible Chassis”. Do you have any information as what these vehicles were?

BCP could be the USA's "Building Partner Capacity" policy which supplied information and equipment to 'Partner' Governments and has done so from 1940 till today.

These Chassis would, or could have been training chassis to train Military & Civilian Mechanics how to assemble and repair different vehicles. The War Department Chassis may have been of Ford Produced Armoured Cars and other specialist chassis. The convertible chassis could be training aids showing how to convert an existing chassis into another type, for example, a standard Ford Chassis into a Marmon-Herrington 4 or 6 wheel drive.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Default Nomenclature mystery

None of the units identified as B.P.C. went to civilian use, only to the defence forces. Over 7,000 in 1942.
This sort of production figure must surely relate to Blitz. Particularly as the vehicle/chassis referred to were sourced from Canada. What else could they be?
Perhaps B.P.C. = British Pattern Canadian nomenclature was used 'in house' instead of CMP?
Makes sense to me but only a wild guess.

Dave I think you are correct as no reference is given to the CMP type chassis in the lists. The convertible type may be vehicle kits with only part of the cab, the rest being built locally. Unlike Holden, Ford Australia did not have the capacity to build complete steel cabs or bodies at that time so needed to use windscreen/firewall units which had to be imported.
