Well Gentleman... this is a strange animal to me, however I have no doubt the members on this forum will solve the mystery of what this is.
I have never seen a more overly complicated diff construction. What the blazes is this thing?

We are sure its not a farmers mod. Its put together as if it was factory.
Experimental perhaps? Chassis construction in the middle is worth noting. Stainless steel welding rods have been used on the front. Not something a farmer would do. Mechanical brakes (Cable), Blitz 20 inch rims.

Note - it has been a bit stuffed around with. The drag link is not original.. having gal pipe welded into it
No stampings or badges (that we could see). Roughly same length as a short wheel base truck. forgot to take old sulky/wagon axle off chassis (Square rod sitting over the chassis) Very curious..have at it lads!!

Very interesting Tony, I don't know what it is either. Is it left or right hand drive? I almost suspect left, but the photos do not allow me to zoom in.
Why have they been uploaded in that fashion. Normally I just click on the and they come up in another screen which I can then click on again and manipulate. But not these photos. Anyway a great question to be answered as to the country, make and model. Regards Rick.

Hi Tony,
I have had a good look at the photos, the axles are not at all familiar, but I feel sure they are Girling brake backplates. Not seeing any hydraulics only cables, so assume mechanical brakes. The bracket for the steering box shows it as right hand drive. regards, Richard

The chassis looks all the world to be a Guy Quad Ant.
The axles are indeed interesting, as with little experience with mecchano, the housings and halfshafts can be reconfigured to have the differential centred on the left or right of the chassis centreline. And although the differential pinions are missing (and spoil any grand plans), is that the speedo drive on the diff pinion housing, both F and R diffs? Break one, use the other? In a previous thread I recall seeing an Italian 4X4 (can't remember the name but it was WWII for desert use) which looked as complicated as this (and was also found in Australia?). Just a thought.

Or Tony, is it that the center housing is made to fit in the front or rear???

Well done Graeme, Tony and Rick
Im convinced that it is a Guy Quad Ant. Certainly the axle end in your picture Graeme, and the footage Keith has done of Stylesey driving his. https://youtu.be/hMTFPB880dw Have look at the end of the footage, looking at the outside of the Quad and Im sure the axles are a match. ![]() ![]() ![]()
